@TempeMom What does that have to do with anything? Haha
@Erin’s Dad Another CC member criticized me for responding after a week. So here I was concerned that it looked like I was too slow again because the thread began in 2015. New member.
@mamadefamilia nice to hear more good reports on Western Washington; actually it’s in Bellingham, which looks like a gorgeous place and great college town. Right on the water, almost to Vancouver. S is accepted there OOS with a scholarship that really puts it on the table. We’ve also seen a lot of positives online but haven’t been able to visit (yet). Would love to hear more! (It’s S’s top choice on the “big school” list and will be competing with a couple of wonderful LACs where he also got in with scholarships. FWIW OP his stats are in the same league as yours. Somewhat higher SAT but probably lower in other areas. I think you’ll be very competitive.)
Will second the rec for Colorado State. I’m really familiar with it and Ft Collins, and while it’s not affordable OOS (we’re not WUE and we didn’t look at the possibility of totally OOS scholarships there), that’s one reason we felt good about the WWU app – it seems like a similar town / atmosphere / college. (OK, way grayer and rainier, but S actually likes that LOL.) Ft Collins is a great place and CSU has some extremely strong programs (particularly environmental and animal sciences) with lots of other very solid programs.
Third the rec for CSU. It is well respected in state and you would qualify for a $6K per year scholarship. Very nice campus.
@MomOnALaptop My information about Western Washington is only second hand (hence getting the town wrong!) The older daughter of one of our car pool moms goes there and a small number of kids from my daughter’s school end up there every year. We’re not in WA but are in WUE. Our friend’s daughter picked it partly because of location and gorgeous campus but also size. It is not overwhelmingly large like some state universities and the student vibe is supportive. She has been very happy there. I believe there is an honors program there.
The area is stunning. Bellingham is very close to the San Juan islands, which can be accessed easily by ferry.
