White House Internship

George: HAHAHAHAHA. Bi-monthly YouTube Address, what about Video-Conference Calling? Hahahha how sweet would that be

it would be like court! King of the Facebook Group, Queen of the CC Thread, and all the applicants XD

AwesomeOpossum

Haha, u think Im kidden, Im heck-a serious!

if we get rejected…with all this enthusiasm we show on here, if we keep it up even after a rejection bummer, we could out-do the real interns lol.

haha, however, I wanna keep it democratic (except my Presidential designation haha) so we have to go by titles such as President, VP, sec of state, etc…

our lil mock gov’t/internship! lol

PS: Ill be doing those video with a straight and serious face, haha, a-la Obama lol

everybody up for that? :)

AwesomeOpossum- first off, CONGRATULATIONS! That’s so awesome you’ve got another gov internship lined up. If you don’t mind me asking…did you apply for it separately? I know there was a question on the White House application that asked if you would like your app forwarded to other government departments and agencies. Was it through that? I completely forgot about that until I saw your post…maybe we can all get internships in the Department of Agriculture or something if this one falls through hahaha!

I also applied to the Red Cross Presidential Internship Program, The Global AIDS Alliance, Pediatric AIDS Care, The World Food Program, the Global Health Council, NARAL, Planned Parenthood, the Greenbelt movement and those are just some of the places I applied. I have a much longer list but I have already heard back from about half that I didn’t get it… I am very confident abtou a few of them though!

Okay note to self: This summer, apply to EVERYTHING.

I applied to the Carter Center, didn’t get it. Then again, didn’t realize one had to be basically fluent in Chinese for the position I went for, and during summer it was so competitive I’m sure they found some Chinese students who knew Mandarin better than me to help them. I really don’t blame em.

Applied to a few more… but most likely too late… but all the internships I wanted politically had early deadlines. I am a transfer… and if I had applied at that time, I would have had a 0.0 GPA.

Looks like summer school, Special Olympic volunteering, and an unofficial internship in a field that I actually have connections in for me this summer! Oh… and not to mention a lot of time will be spent applying to all those early deadline internships I want so badly!

Either way, everything will be okay, it always turns out that way. Not the end of the world, and I personally feel everything happens for a reason.

Oh, PS: Fairy, I may just jot down a few of those organizations that maybe I will apply to at some point in my life! Sound more up my alley.

Samrae

You must be from in and around Atlanta…

i went to GaTech my first year…then transferred out, use to live in Kennesaw

I love Carter! Met him, wife, and fam. Great folks!!! :)

lol yeah I basically applied to EVERYthing that had an internship! and some of these deadlines were very early like February, March. I found a lot on Idealist.org I also discovered that a lot of organizations do not advertise their internship positions on places like idealist but if you go directly to their website you can find them. Several places I applied to didn’t even have info on their website but I called and was able to send in a resume. It pays to be a bit pushy sometimes!

Really??? You went to tech? My best friend goes there. I hang around there a lot.

Not currently in GA though, but my family lives VERY close to Kennesaw. Mind me asking what high school you went to?

Fairy: I mean like I wanted these internships that had deadlines in like November… insane stuff.

samrae

I didnt go to highschool in GA…i moved to an even REDDER state (undisclosed for now haha) however, I was supposed to go to Kell High after getting rezoned from North Cobb…all my friends went to either of the two.

oh, and Tech really didnt work out for me. Being from rural America, the whole city thing didnt work…add to that the 10% female population of which was all either indian or korean didnt work out either, no offense lol. and add to that, Tech was tough!
not that i bowed out or anything, but i lost interest in what i was doing, where i was, etc. not my environemnt

samrae

to clarify, i did go to middle school and elementary in kennesaw

Big Shanty Elementary and Awtry Middle then Palmer Middle :)

I’m really glad to hear that people have back-up plans. It would be crazy if we all thought we’d actually get the WH internship<<Not very realistic, but we can dream, right?
I’ve applied for a few non-profits in DC and NYC,and only one so far looks promising.I’ve also gotten in contact w/ one of Obama’s cabinet members who I used to work w/ back in high school(he had a youth advisory board and I must say we totally rocked )If I end up not getting the WH internship(I’m not expecting that I will now)I’ll be working in his department of so and so(this is the internet,so if you’d like to know more message me)

IN ADDITION:I got a chance to talk to him a few days ago and he said that there are still lots of interns needed in various departments(Department of Energy,Department of Agriculture, etc)I recommend all of you that are still looking for internships this summer,so forward your resumes to the individual offices in these departments. Also call a department that you’re interested in working in,and see if they’re still taking interns. You’re more likely to get a response this way, then by filling out the generic form that everyone else files out online.
There’s my little 411 :)

Yeah engineering major at tech is hell from what I have heard. Haha I remember looking out the window on that campus and if I ever saw two or more girls walking by, sure enough there was a group of like ten guys not far behind.

I got in there via some summer program, I didn’t graduate with calc in high school because I kinda skipped a year, so they didn’t take me straight out. Their loss! I have more rejection-like letters than most! I should start a collection… or make a book!

And George… a REDDER state? Is that possible? Well… not counting the whole city of Atlanta I mean. Kell, I had some friends that went there too. I went to Harrison. Woo.

EDIT: And to clarify, I didn’t opt to do the summer program due to other schedule conflicts. Ended up going to Kennesaw State a year… if you know what I am talking about.

samrae

ohh, its gets redder…think west…lol

Prospie: you know a friggin Cabinet member and speak to them and you;re worried you wont get in? I woulda thought you would glide easily on in. Oh, please let us now if you get it or not, its interesting! :)

George: Why all the secrecy? I am almost certain I know where you go, haha. Dropped some hints earlier, not hard to figure out. I won’t say on here cause you seem hesitant to do so. I will say this, that must have been SOME TRANSFER. haha.

samrae

you should think about going to Jimmy Carter’s church down in Plains. He holds Sunday Class lessons and meets and greets with everybody, including pictures. I live near Plains (but in another state haha) and it is neat to have the President back home pretty often and involved with the community. check it out! :)

here is a link (btw, you dont have to be christian to go, its open to every1)

[Maranatha Baptist Church Sunday School](http://mbcplains.com/index.php/sunday-school/)

samrae:

haha, call me paranoid, lol, but you never know, maybe i expressed comments on here that are a bit disparaging, immature, etc, and I wouldt want anybody involved in the selection process being tainted by that, lol whatev haha

im hoping that i can bank on the fact that I am prolly the only democrat in miles and miles from where Im from, lol

oh, and I transferred to a lesser school, not as Ivy league Engineering as GaTech, but pretty close, lol

George

Oh my God that is forever away… I would have to drive like 3 hours. Then again, it would be a great opportunity. I really appreciate the info. I was wondering how all you people seem to know these important individuals. Guess I should really just do more research! Maybe I’ll make a summer weekend trip out of it!

Thanks very much, like if anything it would be cool just to meet the guy. OH! Maybe if I chat with him enough, he will really like me, and write me a recommendation for Carter Center some day if I have time! that would be a shoe-in right?? haha jk.

I told ya, I think I figured out where you go. But I feel it is a school that is just as prestigious as tech but in a different ball field. Some schools you really can’t compare.

Putin:
Haha, that was kind of my initial thought. But I’ve def. become modest with my reasoning and have realized that there are probably tons of people who know a Cabinet member or Obama’s family chef.
Also,I’m curious to know where everyone is from, but I’m guessing know one wants to really day.I’m going to guess Putin is from AL(thats pretty red, right)but you def. don’t have to clarify. And I’m guessing possum is from VA(total guess;but I you probably already said that)
Hmm,did I mention that this waiting game sucks? :/

samrae

haha, i had a great moment with him and rosalynn…the person taking our pictures didnt know how to use the camera, so as they fumbled for minutes, i chatted it up with him, haha, and then i found out, that they had been taking pictures, but just didnt know it…i ended up with like 7 pictures even tho secret service said ONLY one, lol

haha, Prospie, good guessing, but im gunna remain coy about it, lol.

we’ll get to know eachother via facebook if we all end up being rejected haha lol. oor even if we get accepted, this has been an experience! :)

prospie

so true about connections…i know family friends of Robert Gibbs, but I didnt wanna establish anything because it would seem to self-enriching to put it mildly, lol

whew…i should be studdyin lol
