White House Internship

kt710: thanks. No, I actually scouted out this externship a while back and sent them/called them multiple times. I also have a family friend who works there and I sent him my resume after I sent my whole application to the agency. Something must have worked out because the woman called me today and was very nice and seemed apologetic that they hadn’t got in touch with me earlier (even though the application deadline was 6 days ago!?) So it definitely wasn’t from that forwarded-application thing.

prospie: yup! I’m from NoVa (sorry, it’s a big deal that I say that and not VA since VA is mostly red…and NoVa isn’t…among other things…)

Although I’m really glad I got this job. I applied to 3 non-profits, the agency, the White House, and two other firms for summer work! Needless to say I was pretty shocked when I got that call, haha. Even though it wasn’t the White House call I was still super happy!

since Im in the last 1/3 or so of my college career, I actually wanna live in Northern Virginia. Its proximity to DC, the politics (left leaning), and in general the area is great.

I lived in Laurel Maryland when my dad was a professor at UMD College Park. I moved away when i was like 10, but i still have fond memories of the area…the chesapeake bay…crabs…boats,…DC…and all that great stuff

or im looking into doing law at George Washington, georgetown, etc

we’ll see :)

btw, when i talk about wanting to live in NoVa, immean after i graduate and get a job or grad school lol

one more note, im a little tedious about my writing skills and how it portrays me…im not as stupid as my typing shows…lol…with all my lols and jks and etc and messed up sentences, incomplete thoughts, mispeliings etc…im just tired, anxious, etc…oh welll

George: you could edit them! haha but that requires work.

And yeah, NoVa is a fantastic place to live (especially growing up, I moved here when I was 3 months old, so I basically consider myself and born-and-raised true NoVa-er…or whatever.)

and yeah, I agree with prospie, waiting game sucks.

George:
Haha, thats totally understood.I guess I’m looking forward to two things now:getting the dreaded email from the White House AND seeing what this FB group is going to look like.I feel somewhat lame for being this excited(and nervous??)lol

Possum:
I honestly had no idea!Haha,I mean I’m from a pretty liberal city(ok,I’ll just say it)I’m from CHICAGO.Omg,I feel like a veil has been lifted…or not.lol, but anyway,I’ll def. make sure to distinguish the two now(NoVa and VA)because you’re totally right about them being different. In terms of politics,no?

prospie: and about everything else under the sun. The Washington Post (the world’s greatest newspaper IMHO) sums it up quite excellently in this hillarious article:

[NoVa and RoVa: Welcome to a State Of Disagreement - washingtonpost.com](http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/17/AR2006101701566.html)

Haha, I know what you mean, I can’t wait for the “veil of secrecy” to be lifted.

as President of the upcoming Facebook group:

I order the declassifying of your locations and identities as of Friday 6:00 ET…that is an Executive Order.

Signed,

(haha, not yet lol)

Awesomepossum

HAHA I loved that article! :)

Thank you Miss VP lol

hahaha yep. just another fact of how brillian The Washington Post can be  gotta love them!

Also VP requests we move unveil-time to 7:00 pm eastern because I know they’ve sent out emails around 6:30pm before (I’ve gotten one at that time at least…).

possum:
■■■■!Haha, that was hilarious. Thanks for the link. That def. gave me a better picture of how different NoVa and RoVa(haha, rest of virginia…I love these acronyms)

I have the feeling that there are probably a lot of people reading this forum for several reasons:
A.)They find it amusing that a select few applicants are talking about this on an open forum that anyone can view…Hmm.
B.)They enjoy not having to participate in our discussion(although,we have somewhat gone off topic about 392 times…Hmm.
C.)We’re just that entertaining.Not so much me…for a while,I too was lurking.

Alas,I have no work although this is my 3rd to last week of my freshman year.I currently go to a really horrible public school in the midwest. So glad I’m transferring!

I think I’m done. :)

haha VP-overide request-granted! :)

now, who is sec. of state…rest of the cabinet lol…that can be sorted out later…imean even Obama doesnt have everything sorted out

haha, its kinda sad how im being so presumptuous of me being rejected already, before i ever did lol…im prophetic in a George Bush way :frowning: lol

I’m sure a lot of people out there just get kicks out of us talking and ranting and basically finding any way to waste time again until Friday. WE CAN DO IT.

And George: no worries, basically a few days after I applied my mom was basically like:
“um, yeah, I don’t think you got it” << thanks mom :P

prospie

i wonder if anybody on the inside is watching this…they must be laughing their butts off! haha

VP Possum, lol

haha, my mom is opposite…she feels she has prophetic powers and says I got accepted, lol.

she told me today she has a six sense and it told her I got in

haha i know, crazy, but its mom, lol

I know for a fact people in admissions do it all the time. (because I am THAT big of a dork) I read law school discussions just to get an idea of what it will be like when I apply and stuff and there are confirmations of the DEAN OF ADMISSIONS reading the forums and picking up on information on the people based on what they say

o_O;

yeaaaaah ok.

(mostly though the people think the way you do, George, in that the admissions people must get a kick out of our loopiness)

(also-- George, your mom sounds hillarious in the best way!)

haha, wow the two of you make me laugh.don’t all moms have a six sense? george,if you do end up getting it…that would be awesome!(although totally weird since your mom predicted it)
possum:
I feel somewhat dumb now because a few of my friends said that I’m making an ass of my self on this forum.I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW THEY WERE READING IT!hahaha
or that one was applying…oops,I guess I did give away too much information about myself.

oh and can I be sec. of state???lol,I figured I’d claim it before somone else does…haha

My goal in life is to make people laugh at my expense  well…it’s ONE of my goals. that I Accomplish. Many times. Without trying. -_- lol

Also, I dont know if the White House people read this though. They might be under waaaay too much pressure to finish the applications to read it. Who knows. Next week though, they’ll go through this and be like “ahahahhaha look at that kid, poor sucker”

…or not. who knows!

Hi, as you remember I told you my son had a phone interview last Tuesday and NONE of his references have been called. So he is assuming that he has not gotten it. In between Finals today, he called the WH switchboard and, unexpectedly, was connected to a live person in the internship office. Her name was Rachel. He told her that he had gotten an interview last week, but that none of his references had been called…and one was leaving tomorrow to teach in London. (My son did not give his name). Rachel told him, “Don’t worry, if we call one …and can’t reach them…we will just call the other two.” My son then got off the phone quickly, not wanting to ask too many questions. Mom’s opinion: I think there is no way to process 4000 or 2000 apps…with everyone getting an interview and references called. No way. Some will get in without an interview, some with; some will get rejected who have had an interview…etc…As for references, I think they are way too far behind to call all the references. I think you all are hysterical, and I would hire you in a minute if it were up to me. Please do that u tube thing…it will be so funny. PS One of the reasons that a lot more applicants are not on…is because many of them are in the middle of Finals and Papers.

Has anyone gotten the ball rolling toward a facebook group? We should probably work on that after decisions are made…I think I’d be too afraid to release my true identity before out of fear that ol’ Big Brother would see this forum and reject us just for talking…just the paranoia talking haha.

So another day almost gone by since the infamous email of yesterday…long but almost done. What if this were all game…and in the end they accepted everyone on this forum!!! OH how great that’d be haha.
