I’m glad to see I’m not the only one sweatin’ it out!

Couple things…
-On the phone message they have when you (try to) call, it says we will hear by Friday. But on the website it says by the 20th. Hm! So Friday?
-Anyone else get a call/email about an interview with an office? I can’t tell if the office that contacts you (one from the list on the site… not necessarily one of the ones you picked, at least in my case) is the only one you are still in the running for or what. Also, I can’t tell if getting an interview means you’ve moved on to the “next round” of the application process or if it just means the office likes to interview. Seems like maybe the intern office went through the apps and forwarded them to the offices? So maybe we’re only in the running for one and not for all the ones that we put on our list?

Anyway, AHH! So many unknowns. But everything shall be revealed shortly!

Good luck to everyone! And yeah, let’s all post when we find out.

And where is everyone, as far as year in school?

prophet: how have you been working on your app since January? The application wasn’t available until March.

apple: You got an interview call!! Uhoh, I feel worried now since I didn’t get one.

If you got a call I am insanely jealous, I really want this internship like none other!

From what last years interns said it seems that offices that thought you would be a good fit call you to interview you. Remember on the app you put down your top 5 choices, although you are not necessarily guaranteed to get into one of those offices…

School: Freshman in college (I know, it’s hard to get as a freshman but I can dream right?). Besides, I’m outta here next Thursday.

Also about calls: I deduced Friday as well. See above, but I think that it really will be this week.

Also I’m glad to see more CC-ers are applying for this. originally I thought I was the only one :)

Hi Everybody, glad to see someone’s got a thread going for this. I also applied (i am a graduating senior)…but i am really trying hard not to think about it too much b/c i don’t want to be incredibly disappointed. From what i understand, an insane amount of people have applied for a chance at this internship, so i’m sure there are a lot of highly qualified people. From that point on the decision becomes quite difficult and, i’m guessing, almost random. Sorry…i didn’t mean to disappoint people with that. Anyway, from what i understand the deadline to hear back is April 20th, which is Monday. The number i called didn’t say anything about hearing back Friday, but maybe i have a different number. I’m not sure if its phone or email either, but i remember reading an article that said something about there not being interviews b/c this session’s process is a bit rushed. I guess that means if you hear back, you got it.

Anyway, GOOD LUCK TO ALL AND I TRULY WISH YOU THE BEST!

Oh, and a quick question…where are all you guys from? VA? DC? Just curious. I’m from VA.

Ah! I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to stress anyone out!!! I am seriously freaking myself and I don’t want to cause any unnecessary frustration for anyone else. Since it looks like each individual office is handling their applicants the way they want, I’m sure it’s up to them as to whether or not they’re going to interview as a part of the process.

But I got an email and am expecting a call sometime tomorrow for an interview. Not sure what it means yet. Good things I hope!

And I’m from TX. If things do go well (fingers crosed!) I’m going to be more than a little concerned about dorm prices for over the summer at GW or wherever… EEK!

Apple-no worries. glad you told us. Too make it so far is awesome. Good luck to you…and DC is a bit expensive but hopefully you’ll find a good spot. I love the city, despite its heavy car and foot traffic. Good luck on your interview. Knock em dead and update us!

Also, just curious but, i noticed a lot of the past interns had some extensive experience interning/volunteering for other politicians or govt offices. Just wanted to know if you are one of those. Thanks for sharing!

This would’ve been my dream internship, but I’m not a U.S. citizen (grew up here, though, and hope to become a naturalized citizen eventually). I was very disappointed to see that was a requirement.

apple: what year are you? Also I would look into housing either in South Maryland or Northern Virginia. It’s probably cheaper and you can just metro in every day to DC (which is what I’ll be doing if I get in yay Metro!) Which office are you expecting a call from do you know?

dee: graduating senior of college. yikes, I feel like the runt of the group now :P

Also I’m from NoVa, fairfax station to be precise. Whereabouts are you from?

Awesome is right…NOVA or South Maryland would be a bit cheaper…but it really depends. Group houses in dc are probably the cheapest way to go. You can find some for as low as 400 something dollars a month…which is pretty amazing for NW DC. I’m looking for housing in the city right now b/c im graduating this may and ive seen some pretty good deals. The parts of NOVA that are 10-25 minutes from DC can be almost as expensive as DC so do your research.

Awesome-its great that you applied. Being a freshman is wonderful because you have a lot of time to build up your resume and its great that you are thinking about this early on. That’s a smart move. If you get the internship, GREAT, FANTASTIC. But if not, you can always reapply. I read an article about a girl who didn’t get the internship the first time she applied (they told her she needed more work experience) and so she went out and got some, reapplied a year later and landed the intership. Being young just means you have more opportunities.

By the way, im from NOVA too :). Arlington, Falls Church, Fairfax areas.

dee: thanks for the encouragment I definitely need it. I think I’ve applied or sent my resume to 7-8 places so far, and more to go probably…
also out of the blue but, what HS did you go to? If you’re graduating this year you were an '05 HS Grad right?

Dee you seem to know about intern housing or at least cheap housing in d.c. My daughter is looking for housing in d.c. where she hopes to intern this summer. Do you have any suggestions of these “group houses” you mentioned. Do you know anything about other housing options for someone coming from out of town who will have little or no furnishings?

Awesome-Im graduating from the University of Mary Washington. What college are you attending? By the way, youre talking about TJ the magnet school, right?

Hopesalive-group houses with available rooms are easiest to find on craigslist.com. If you go under wash dc and click rooms/shared under housing you will find many. The only negative aspect I would say, is that most of these houses have very few bathrooms (they are old for the most part). They were built for families so a lot of the time you might have 4-5 bedrooms and only one bathroom. But if youre willing to work with it, you can find a good deal.

There is also another way you can go. They also have dorm style housing in dc, where visiting interns, international students/interns and people re-locating to dc share rooms in a house together. There are like two bunk beds per room or something so its very much like a dorm .but they charge you by the week, or you can rent for the month or two months and they give you a nice discount. They will also give you a discount if you are a student (I think you need to show them a passport and student ID). Also, everything is furnished here .you really need nothing. They provide you with towels/linens, public computers with internet, washer/dryer, cable, free long distance calling, free car parking and more.

dee: yup the magnet school. UMW, that’s cool My high school guard instructor graduated from there a year ago in December. I go to Pitt for Engineering now.

Hm, no news from apple yet, I wonder what that means…

Sorry sorry sorry! I’m here! I didn’t want to post anything until I had my interview. Just got off the phone with the correspondence office for the interview… GULP!

I think it went pretty well! They were very very nice and friendly. They had five questions for me to answer then I had an opportunity to ask my own questions about the program. My understanding is that they are taking 16 interns (the correspondence office is). The correspondence office operation sounds… HUGE!

She said either Friday or Monday hahaha. Sigh… so still no resolution on that one!

Thanks for posting all the housing info dee!

Has anyone else heard anything? You guys are awesome!

that’s a lot of interns! Hey-- does anyone remember if the total # of interns is 100 or 200? I think I kept reading conflicting articles about the numbers (or is there even a set number?).
Were the 5 questions toughies or were they more about your application type things (i.e. expand on your essay or whatever).

Nothing here ): Dont know what that means… I’m starting to think not good…

well, best of luck to you apple! I hope you hear back Friday haha

QUICK questions: did they schedule an interview time with you on Monday or Tuesday, or just call you at random sometime this week? was this your first call from them? what kind of questions did they ask you?
