White House Internship

Agreed I really hope this means that we are narrowed down. Either way I’m glad I’m still alive

well, we will know soon because if people did not get the april 24 email today then we know we’ve been narrowed down.

Yeah I agreee with Doctor John. I think if everyone doesn’t get the email by 6PM it is safe to assume they are part of the narrowed down pool!!

i’m just still in disbelief they need another 4 days. i am optimistically certain we will get the news earlier.

Yeah 4 days? Seems like a short time to make so many decisions and to do so much work. But hey, this is Obama we’re talking about here. His first 100 days will have more productivity than Bush’s 8 years (productivity meaning positive change, we all know Bush did a lot. A lot of bad) in office. So I figure calling a couple thousand references and conducting a coupe hundred phone interviews in 4 days would be a small task for this administration.

I got the e-mail too! I hope it means that its for a narrowed down pool, but who knows. My references were not checked yet I have the Chief of Staff for the US Congressman I interned for, a former supervisor and a supervisor for volunteer work I did. They are not as stellar as some of the others on here however I have been accepted into the Peace Corps and I will be a graduate student in Public Policy for the fall… who knows?

YOU GUYS YOU GUYS!!! I GOT AN EMAIL!!! I GOT THE MASS EMAIL!!! THAT MEANS THEY GOT MY APPLICATION!!! At least now I know that if I get rejected… that I earned that rejection!!!

Awesome, I don’t need an interview!! I’m thrilled just knowing that they have my application! ZERO confirmation email, ONE email stating a later notification date!

Woo! Did anyone NOT get one? What is all this narrowing down business? I would think they would have to send it to everyone, I mean, rejection letters go out too on the 24th, right?

I’ve got a couple sources in operations and correspondence that I can try out on the “is this a narrowed mailing list” thing. This is kinda hysterical to me though. Everyone is just out there google searching and coming to this (previously) quite obscure thread. ****! I should be working on something else right now.

Got an email too. Looks like this was a general mass info email and not the narrowed down pool.

“quite obscure” I don’t think it was obscure so much as we were all just waiting for any contact from the office and now that it’s a “wait some more” email people have gone into an uproar and actually started posting

Samrae, yeah I got the email everyone’s talking about. Glad to know at least they have my application.

Don’t know if they’ve contacted my recommenders or references…
Why can’t I just get some closure?!

ok folks well i just joined after searching endlessly for other applicants. i did not get any email today though i do have some inside information (believe it or disregard it, whatever): i worked on the campaign in iowa during the primaries and then went back to college. my boss in iowa went on to work with the woman who runs the internship program and she told him last week that they got 4000 applicants and were not sure exactly how many they were taking.

what did the email say exactly? anyone feel comfortable copying and pasting it?

Yeah this is getting out of hand. I figure by the end of the night if this thread is filled to the brim with thousands of new members you can cancel the narrowing down jazz (if you can’t already). But hey anything to feed HOPE huh? Works for me. I’m a big fan of blind optimism.

Hey they say Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things unseen… Well, there definately isn’t any substance to the speculation nor evidence to support it.

But, I rather put the good old blinders on and hold on to any reasoning for HOPE!!!LOL

4000??? That’s a huge number I can’t imagine that many people getting an application prepared in such a small time! Then again they did say they expected a huge turnout.

I’m actually relieved it was only 4000. I honestly expected like 30,000 applicants.

by the way…the fact that you didnt get the email or an interview doesnt mean ****.

first off, i doubt they’re interviewing people and i’d be willing to guess the one kid on here that said he was interviewed was either lying or his/her parents maxed out during the primary and general.

second, everyone applying has good experience/qualifications otherwise they wouldnt be stupid enough to apply. dont worry about your experience, connections, grades, etc.

4000 Applications? Honestly I was expecting more. Seesh, they got like 12,000 for the Obama Organizing Fellowship Program last summer. They ended up taking around 3,500. But this is a different cookie. I was expecting the number to be higher than the Campaign Fellowship tally just for the simple fact that it’s the freaking White House!!! Who wouldn’t want to work there, and people would be lining up to work for Obama if he ran a fruit stand! So I figured the number would be somewhere around 25,000.

4000? As low as a number as that is. As an applicant I hope you are right!!!

4000 applications, wow! And it was only up for a few weeks… I can’t imagine how many they would have received if it were up longer. According to Princeton Review’s “Best 109 Internships”, the White House internship program received approximately 2,800 applications annually (spring, summer and fall) under the Bush administration.

I hope they boost the number of positions to 200, but I know they have to make room for DC summer scholars as well.

I was under the impression that the DC scholars program was a watered down version of the internship but that they don’t actually replace intern spots since they come in a month later

scanman1722, obsessed copy and pasted the email that people have been getting on page 8.
