Maybe everyone who got the email got accepted into the program and they need these next four days to contact us all??? lol Yeah I’m going to step away from the bong of Hope and comeback to reality…Sorry guys.

actually just heard it was 100 spots 7000 applicants, which is a yield of about 1%. making it one of the most competitive things in the world.

[White House Internship](http://digg.com/d1pCuk)

let’s share with the world

I have been emailing the office like crazy to see if they got my application and I still haven’t heard from anyone…in addition to the fact that I have yet to receive a confirmation email.

what does this mean??!???
help?

Sounds like the same odds in a 1996 poll on the chance of having a Black President in 2009.

I like those odds… and it’s a 1.4% chance…that’s almost 2% when you sprinkle some hope on it…lol

I didn’t get the email as I said earlier but it seems to me the email most of you got was rather generic and considering a lot of people who got the email got it at different times this afternoon it doesn’t seem like its on a listserv and they clearly are not done reviewing all of the applications yet otherwise they would have sent an email with a decision. Seems like maybe they will be rolling out similar emails over the next few days.

(PS - I HATE websites like this because half the people on these things are lying egomaniacs. But, at the expense of sounding like one of the people I hate, I don’t think if in fact this email was a “first cut” I wouldn’t have made it based on the fact that I left school to work on the campaign in fall 2007, graduated in 08, and then work full time and got a letter of rec from a certain massachusetts politician that was a big supporter of his. Maybe I won’t get the actual internship but I’d imagine, if there was a first cut, I’d probably have made it).

Really though Scanmann I think you aren’t as special as you would like to believe. Although your experience is commendable, I don’t think this administration operates like that. I really do think they are looking for the best and brightest. Look at his cabinet; all all-stars. Political connections, campaign experience, and all that jazz can be thrown out the window in my eyes.

I mean like a zillion people where employed and paid by the campaign.

It’s game time now! It’s time for the people who have the skills to pay the bills (or taxpayers) to come to the table. Favors, posturing etc is reserved for the campaign trail, not the highest office in the world.

Not with a new President who has made a sustantial committment to ethics.

Some people have received 3 confirmation emails, others none. In retrospect, it’s no surprise to me that not everyone would receive this latest email. I wouldn’t jump to the conclusion that not getting it means someone didn’t make the “cut”. Until letters start going out that say “accepted” or “rejected”, no one here has any reason to count themselves out!

Well said Interanet_Envoy!!!

nupenupeyoo,

I agree! I think that political favors and such like that are not as big of an asset as some may think. And SCANMAN if you hate this website than don’t waste any of our time please and get off.

really guys this thread was pretty positive and supporting up until today when that email
was sent out. I’d appreciate if we kept it that way. Not that I’m a moderator or anything but can’t we at least keep it positive and all?

Lets not start questioning one anothers credentials.

We all know why we applied.

Everyone’s just a little tense because we were expecting it to be over today.

seriously! I agree I like the positive nature!

If that number is as high as 7000 I think we can stop deluding ourselves. It seems that the people who got a phonecall are probably in the narrowed down pool and this was just a general “we need more time” email.

Seriously! We get 4 more days to get to know each other. Speaking of which, welcome to all the new members on this thread! Join the waiting game :)

Everyone: calm down. I know that’s a “Mom” thing to say, but it’s obvious that the Staff at the White House is somewhat overwhelmed by the sheer numbers: however, I feel that EVERYONE got the e mail.

As for favors, etc: there will be some, however, I strongly believe that most of the decisions will be based on the applicant’s qualifications and the needs of each office.
We have a friend who was a Bush Intern: she said the thing to remember is that these are not “vanity” positions; the various offices really need the work of the interns. Thus, they will not take a majority of political favors as interns. There is work to be done.

My son was called for an interview last Monday and had the interview on Wednesday.
According to him, it was short and was almost like they just wanted to hear his personality…it didn’t seem substanitive. The questions were more personal…than anything about the job.

And none of his references have been called as of today.

Study for your finals and, if you don’t make it this year, apply again. Eventually, you will be accepted. Good luck to everyone!

I declare everyone in this thread a White House Internship semi-finalist. If we don’t make the final cut, we can still go on a White House tour! Just have to get 10 or more people together.

Okay, I’m gonna throw out one thing about that email. If you didn’t get one, I bet you will if you got that application in on time. I mean… this has all been both glitchy and tedious for them too I’m sure. I am just stoked cause I had heard nothing from them, but those who have heard ANYTHING I’m sure are fine, and those that haven’t, I’m sure you will get an email within a few days.

I can’t believe I’m even doing a forum. Normally I only used them as resources, this is my first time writing in one. Nice to have my first experience be positive!

Did you have an interview? And were they checked before or after your interview?

I think that everyone needs to just relax and hope for the best. There is no use for putting each other down because we are all in the same position. NOT ONE OF US has received a rejection or acceptance letter so, all of the “my credentials are top notch aka better than yours” comments, mean nothing at this point. NO ONE would be on this site if they were at least 90% confident or sure that they got the position!!! Please remain positive and continue to encourage one another. The main reason why I came on this site was to meet people who were and still are in the same position that I am in (in this internship process)…I didn’t come on this site to “preach” to the pessimistic! Leave the site if you have nothing nice to say!
