White House Internship

Rejected; as was everyone here thus far. I can’t imagine what they were actually looking for if so many of us were rejected…

I was also turned down.
For future applicants: I was emailed and interviewed.

Best of luck to all :)

It really makes no sense to me that we wouldn’t all be sent notification at the same time…

Yeah, I didn’t get it either. I’d be curious to know what kind of resumes the people that got in had. It really seems like luck more than anything, as most applicants seem very qualified.

Not as a justification or anything. but its all about who you know. if 7000 people apply and say 2000 are qualified thats still one spot for every 20 people… i know that atleast last summer duke had like 10 people because duke has a bunch of alum in the office that put in a good word. you just need people to make phone calls for you… how else do they narrow it down. obviously some people get there just on merit… but when you have so many qualified people… you have to narrow it down some how.

Did anyone else who got rejected get a call? I got a call asking me to email the program with convenient times to call back but then never heard back. Then I got a rejection email late late last night. So why did they call me on Friday night? Anyone have any idea? To any accepted: is Friday the day you got your call? Mine came in around 8 p.m. est. Haven’t heard anything since. Thanks.

Rejected. I think those who haven’t heard anything yet have a good chance. Good luck!

For future applicants, I received a vitals email and no interview.

FYI, I called the internship office this morning since I still haven’t heard anything…

They said that there are a few applicants who still haven’t been notified, and they hope to notify everyone by the end of today.

WHMBA10- Thanks for calling them- crossing my fingers for us both!

I got rejected too. I’m not surprised for several reasons, though I am surprised that it appears no one here was accepted.

Application status…

Applied

Received Vitals Email

No Interview

Rejected

Also, thank to all those on this chat room who made the wait for a decision a bit more bearable, and for all of your support and commiseration.

If anyone on this chat room was offered a position please do tell! I hope at least one of us made the cut.

Best of luck to all of you in future endeavors; and perhaps in re-applying for another WH internship, too.

With all the rejections on here (myself included), it certainly makes us wonder what the ideal candidate looks like. I’m a graduate student in an MPA program with eight solid years of local government experience at a professional level. Perhaps they don’t want individuals viewed as overqualified? One thing is for sure, the internship program could be more specific about what they’re looking for.

Vitals email, no interview, rejected.

JW2WH10-- it sounds like you could probably apply for the White House Fellows program.

Just received this message from the WH Internship Program:

Looks like those of us who haven’t found out yet have to wait another week… Will report once I find out if I’ve been accepted or not. The suspense really is painful.

I just got that same email.

I also emailed my interviewer (he gave me his contact information when we spoke), who was under the impression that the deadline for notification was this Wednesday, not the “week of april 5”…

I received the same email-which depts did you guys interview with?

Well, being from both Delaware and Hawaii does not appear to have been the key. (lol)
Good luck the two of you that are still in limbo.

I interviewed with the Office of Public Engagement (which is odd because I’m fairly certain that I didn’t list them as one of my choices…but I could be wrong about that…).

Good luck to everyone else still waiting to hear!
