White males are URM now at Stanford engineering

It is beginning to look like Stanford needs to put the "diversity" line to work and start admitting more white males since they clearly are the URM now. Here is how Stanford defines the makup of their engineers (see lower right corner at the below link)

Who are Stanford engineers?

Approximately 27% of our undergraduates and 23% of all graduate students are women. Ethnic minority students, including African Americans, Asians, Hispanics and Native Americans comprised 60 percent of undergraduate... degrees granted to students of U.S. residency and known ethnicity.

If you are a prospective engineering student who happens to not be a student of color (especially male) then I wouldn't get my hopes up based on the above stats. On the other hand, perhaps white males should be encouraged to apply since they are now the minority?

Not necessarily. It takes all other races combined just to beat the percentage of Caucasian students. While whites may be the minority compared to all other races, that hardly makes them a minority in the big picture.

Let's say there are 40% Caucasian, 25% Asian, 15% African-American, 10% Hispanic, and 10% of all other races. If Caucasians are URM, then who is the majority?

These worries also ignore the fact that no one is admitted to a particular undergraduate school at Stanford. YOu don't declare a major until the end of your sophomore year.

Let's not start this war again. There is absolutely nothing new to say here and it gets wierd and ugly fast.
