Admission and South Asians

I was so happy to see the "South Asian" option at the Stanford application, that's like the first time I have ever seen Asian broken down into further subgroups.

I know that a lot of East Asians apply to Stanford, and that it's really competitive for them. Are South Asians any better off? Are they URM at Stanford.

I am Pakistani-American, are they better off than Indian-Americans? Are there fair number of Pakistani-American students/applicants at Stanford?

P.S. I know that the difference the race/ethnicity/nationality makes is minimal....I was just curious.

URM won't help unless you are Native American, African American, or Hispanic.

Also, Stanford explicity states it has no quotas for any race whatsoever, so I don't even think AA applies here

Either way there is no advantage. Write great essays and hope for the best like the rest of us!

I know, that's what I am planning on doing.

Like I already said....the difference is minimal or nonexsistant...I was just wondering.

Good luck to ya'll CCers. I hope a bunch of us get in.

whats up my fellow paki....

but yeah theres no shortage in the PERCENTAGE of pakistanis going to college so we're not a URM

hey Salik......are you in Stanford right now?

no just another senior

There aren't a WHOLE lot of Paki's at stanford but a significant percentage. Basically it won't help you a whole lot more than being indian would... I think we're considered the same in their eyes, just like the diff between a Cherokee and Sioux.
