white non-legacy non-athletes are screwed

My friend's dad works at a small liberal arts college in the northeast. His dad has friends in the Admissions office who know the pton admissions people.

This is what he found out.

Janet Rapeleye has wasted no time getting to work, of the RD admits, here is the percentage breakdown
50%-Minorities (all minorities, including ORMs)
10%-Legacies
10%-Athletes

That leaves 30% of the spots for white kids who dont play sports at a college level and whose parents didn't go to pton.

Good luck

50 percent sure, but lets count the percentage of orm's applying to each school... in that respect it sucks for asians too

what are orms?

i still bet there are many many more white people applying than asians.

The real point is, Janet Rapeleye is completely changing the school, and i dont think the 10% legacy admit is gonna keep the alums off her back.

over represented minorities

i also bet that the ratio of whites to asian americans is close to 30:1

ORM=over-represented minority (e.g. asians and jews)

30:1 is the ratio for what, the US? princeton?

us...* just percentage that can apply* lol i'm rambling

so glad I'm not white!!!!'

though technically I was born in the region bordered by the caucasus mountain range so I guess you could call me caucasian.... but , in reality, I'm armenian

yes, that dark skin comes in handy for more than just UV protection.

Bye bye Princeton... sigh.

finemeal, what happened to your post?

I saw it too, and I agree with it.

oh my God. dont say that.

what do they mean by "minorities" though? do slavs count as a "minority"? I mean I'm slavic and I'd say that we're just about as far removed from the stereotypical "white" person as are jews... although I may be wrong...

if your skin isn't white, you are a minority.

So this includes blacks, hispanics, and asians. Europeans are not considered minorities in the "minority percentage" statistics.

You know, a lot of the times minorities are accused of cheating the system when in fact I know of someone, a junior at my school who is a stereotypical Aryan but he just happened to be born in Mexico because his parents were on vacation. He is planning to say that he is Hispanic next year, and I guess technically he is!

What was his post? Can someone pm it to me?

it said that everyone's been a minority at some point in history and that we basically should stop caring about it and get used to the point that life isn't fair and just work really really hard

but if your skin is white, working really really hard may not be enough.

At least that's the message many colleges are sending.

exacctly. dang it. of all the very very qualified ppl i personally know who applied to yale, one got in, as qualified as the rest of the group.. the only discernible difference being that he's originally from india. and though I'm sooooo happy for him, i cant help but wonder how much that played in his favor, and more, what if I had been the one born in India..would my decision have come out differently?
