Whitman/Newhouse Dual Enrollment Reviews

I am a prospective student, who has not been admitted to the university yet. I am an applicant for the dual enrollment program at Syracuse and was wondering what past students have said about the program? I would like to know if it is rigorious and if it takes up alot of free time.
Thanks so much~!

How rigorous it is depends on how many AP courses that you come in with. The dual program requires at least 8 additional courses. My D has done the program by taking a few summer courses at SU (online) and doing state college summer courses that are accepted but not put into your GPA. The first two years of the Whitman core is very rigorous and focuses on basic business - this program is housed in Whitman and you must satisfy their requirements. It is a fantastic program and opens up lots of doors.

Thanks Twoparent,
I am going to college for the fun and for the awesome academics. I want to eventually work with the business of magazines and am wondering if this program is the one for me. I want to do it, but am worried that it will take over my life, especially if you are saying that the first two years are rigorous. Any other thoughts?

You might as well come back here when you are accepted to decide so that you can compare to your other schools…

It is a rigorous program but not overly so if you have a very rigorous HS experience…

Where else did you apply/get accepted to?

While you are correct, I was just asking to know. I did have a pretty rigorous HS career with all honors and AP courses this year. I applied to : Indiana, Alabama, Charleston, Tulane, Syracuse, SMU, Boston U, Emerson and UMiami. I was deferred at Tulane and Miami and was accepted to Charleston, Alabama and Indiana.
