My in-state son was invited to apply, after being admitted with the $9600 scholarship (over four years) and accepted to the honors program. His stats are good, but not truly outstanding–33 ACT (superscore; 32 single sitting), and about a 4.0 FSU GPA, with nine AP courses and mostly honors courses otherwise. He doesn’t have a ton of extra-curriculars–most relate to his sport, although he did have some interesting summer experiences and a good summer job. Should he bother applying? Is there really a chance he would get it? The application process is pretty lengthy.
I was wondering the same thing. The app looks like a pain.
I’d suggest he applies. Their website isn’t very descriptive though. They had a picture of the kids who got the award and I’d say there were 20-25 kids in it. So not too many people get it… Your son has pretty good stats to me, so I’d say it’s worth a shot!
Yeah, 25 people every year are supposed to receive the award.
It’s a long process to apply because you will have to be pretty dedicated to receive and keep the award from what I’ve seen. If you’re committed to completing the application it shows you’re dedicated. It doesn’t mean you will get it, but the application is probably designed to be so long for this very reason.
My son is currently an FSU Presidential Scholar, incredible program and worth the paperwork. He is traveling to FSU London campus this Summer all paid for by the program. Incredible opportunity and awesome on his resume for Grad School. They also waive out of state tuition for those who are not Florida residents.
Too late now…
