Who are Penn's EDers?

i'm a chinese female from maryland. yea i'm fob. i go to a large public high school and i applied to cas. my gpa/sat/rec are decent to good, my rank sucks tho. crazy overachievers in my school.

i'm a math/science person, but i'm into liberal arts as well. i love philosophy, graphic design and badminton, and i'm addicted to youtube and cc. procrastination is a good hobby of mine too.

and...i really don't know what to write so i'm referring to previous posts for ideas. i don't know wut i want to major in yet cuz i have many different interests, but no way in the world i'd become an engineer. i tried it for two weeks and hated it. i'm a dork mostly, but i'm also quite original, at least me/my friends think so. i'm friends w/ dif. groups of people. k i know everyone says that, but it's true and some of my friends pretty much hate each other. i dislike all the drama but it's highschool. o well. one more reason to go to college.

good luck to us all! hope to see you all (and myself of course) at penn :D

einnoc07: i have a friend in penn's class of 2010, and she told me that orientation was amazing, people were all very friendly and many would approach you and introduce themselves. penn's pretty good at making freshies feel comfortable, so i don't think u needa worry :D

I'm from Portland, Oregon. I love it here, rain and all. I'm the only kid in the city with payis (traditional Jewish earlocks), but I go to public school since there isn't Jewish high school in Portland. My school has about 1700 kids, excellent teachers (at least the ones I've had), AP's in sciences, history, and English. One or two kids go to Penn every year. I'm applying to CAS and want to study biochem. Sadly, I spend most of my time doing homework. Sound familiar anyone? I love playing tennis, have been on the varsity team since my freshman year. I'm working on a research project at Oregon Health and Science University, the local med school, on the effects of the variation of a transporter gene on sensitivity to Gleevec, a drug used to treat some forms of leukemia (ABCG2, if any other complete bio nerds want to look it up; it's part of the larger ATP Binding Cassette family). Doing research is awesome, because the professor I'm working with discovered the drug and is a really nice guy, even though he famous and spends a lot of his time on lecture tours and going to conferences.

As for quirks (not to be confused with quarks, though I like those too) my favorite thing to do is to go out to midnight movie premieres. I have a group of close friends (we've known each other since we were 5) with whom I go to LOTR and Harry Potter type movies. We've been doing it since eighth grade and quite enjoy laughing at the people who come in costume (wondering why they do, since it makes watching the movie less comfortable) and we just seem to laugh a lot when we see each other. I guess that's what happens when you've known people for a while. The movies aren't always that good (LOTR was, but I've come to the conclusion that the kids in the Harry Potter series will never learn to act.) So we laugh at them, if not with them;)

So what else... I'm 16, and finishing high school in three years (I'll make a long story very short by not bothering to explain). I break dance very occassionally. I used to be a gymnast, so that makes break dancing pretty easy (at least the simple stuff that I can actually do). I'm taking half my classes this year at my high school and half in college. I have a bio course at Reed College, and I'm taking a US Politics course at Lewis and Clark College (The prof is excellent, but remind me never to take a class that requires 8 papers again). That's about it, at least time's up and it's time to study nuclear magnetic resonance for my Organic Chem test...

I am an intl living in a rural area in Bavaria, Germany. I spend most of my time in school and on the school buses and trains (2 hours one way), and when I get home I take care of my 4 younger siblings (7-13) and help them with their homework, which is why I hardly have any EC's.
I work during breaks (except for x-mas), mostly as a waitress or a warehouseman. I will be a first generation college student.
I am applying to CAS as a math major. I don't know why but I just love math and philosophy. I am officially enrolled in two math classes at a university (linear algebra and probability), but I hardly ever have time to attend the lectures or rehersals, so I am trying to self-study and only go there to turn in graded homework assignments (I can get the info online). I just hope that I won't screw up the exams at the end of the semester ;)
I think that my chances of getting into Penn are very slim because I require almost full aid.

I'm Coot66... A lazy guy from Connecticut (born in Ukraine). My grades and SAT's are all mediocre at best and the only reason I'm hoping for Penn is because of a super smart sister who's currently attending and a (hopefully) powerful presence of business in my application. Hobbies include chess and Broadway musicals. I've recently jumped the bandwagon and have become interested in Lost (Sawyer is a role model). Favorite subjects include history because it rather interesting most of the time. I enjoy arguing/debating and though I dropped out from my school's team (it felt too fake), I feel I can hold my own rather well. I'm obsessed completely with getting free samples other free stuff (ie. I recently got two free iPods!) And that's as far as I'm going for now...

-The Lazy Coot66

Haha I was just on the cornell forum and they started a thread just like this, and they even said they were copying us. Penn kids = Trendsetters fo sho!!

Holler...just kidding. My name is hoodhopper and im from baltimore, maryland. I am applying to the Life Sciences and Management joint degree program at Penn.

I am super lazy but I was still voted Class genius and most likely to succeed by my class but my stats make me look like an amateur when i see the other stats on CC. This is probably because almost 40% of last year's senior class went straight to work or to our local community college. My school's not that smart.

Other than that, i am a huge Sports addict. Im a big Baltimore Ravens fan, who by the way will be Super Bowl champions this year ( i said it first). On friday nights i like to play basketball at a local gym and it usually lasts past midnight. I also play varsity badminton.

Overall, I just am an average kid: I party, I chill with my friends, and i like sports. That's all i have to say about that.

btw letmepass...where exactly in maryland are you from?

another btw...franklinbrown seems like a total dork....i know its kind of hypocritical as im posting on a college forum on a friday. ( i'm going out later). I mean cmon...who goes to midnight movie premieres? ***... and the jokes you included in your statement...i can just picture you playing world of warcraft at 2 am making jokes about gnomes.

Just an observation..no harm intended.

I think franklinbrown seems like a genius. Graduating in 3 years in tough..plus being a gymnast and taking college credit classes is impressive.

hoodhopper, nobody cares about your social life or whether you are going out later tonight.

i care about my social life

^ the RAVENS?! hahahahahahahahahhahahaa
....yeah. um. Ok.

btw, i live in miami. ill be at that superbowl game. and ill think about u for a second, just a second, when its definitely NOT the ravens out there. lol

hoodhopper I think it depends on what you consider a fun social life :-)

I think midnight movie premiers and LOTR are fun and I would call going to things like that with your friends having a social life.

I'm not trying to start any kind of argument or anything

hehe but hey, I'm a dork, and I know it (hehe...see my post here for more detail on my dorkiness)

hoodhopper: i'm from baltimore as well. lol

i don't watch the ravens though (well i barely watch any sports)... i'm scared that if i actually go to a game a football's gonna knock me out in the head, just cuz..i'm that unlucky. lol

adolf hitler

intended major: finance

If only I had a plot for world domination on my resume.. sigh.

there's an underground nazi group in my school. lol.

Hello....

I'm an international student, but I won't say from where, cause I don't really want to... (I'll just say that I'm a guy).. and I currently live in Germany.

My hobbies include.. Partying, Drinking, and... more partying!

Furthermore, I don't really think that I'll be accepted to Penn, but I was already accepted to Michigan, so it's probable that I'll end up there. Hope to see some of you there.

Greets

That ravens game was so sad. :(

glad to see a lot of ravens fans out there....but yea im not too stressed about the loss....i think it helps us re-focus and get our priorities straight so we peak at just the right time.

SORRY FOR GOING OF TOPIC...NOW BACK TO REGULARLY SCHEDULED THREAD

AHH!! im from Baltimore too!!! What schools do you all go to!? But anyways... Im a nigerian female. I go to a rigorous private school. I do alot for my school....what else am I supposed to say?
