Who can talk the talk of the admission review?

basically what i mean is....does anyone know the specifics of the review? who reviews, how many people, what do they look at first, how do they decide, how long on average is each application reviewed?

for specific colleges? (especially hotel! :) )

just trying to kill time on the threads thinking of what they are doing to my app and i was wondering if anyone here knows...

I think each department has its own reviewing "committee" as it is called. It is usually composed of a small group of people. Each application is expected to be reviewed for at least three times (except those really garbaged ones like straight Fs.) That's basically what I know.

the only thing i really heard was that at the hotel school i think there is a committee of 7 people who vote and it is some insane majority that is needed...

i heard for cornell ed, their evaluation sequence is like this:
- GPA
- SAT scores
- secondary reports + teacher's references
- essays
- ECs

as for hotel school, it's more like
- work experience
- GPA
- physical appearance (this one is a bit...weird)
- SAT + references
- interview
- other stuff

CALS ED is 2-4 people

-essays
-ecs that fit major
-courseload
-GPA
-Rec's
-SAT/ACT
-work exp.
-any hooks

that's probably why Hotel has us send them a face picture

I don't think it is as sequential as Ciniedy states. When we spoke to the admissions representative for our area in Arts and Sciences, he explained his process as follows: he has a faculty member reading the essays while he is putting together his analysis of other aspects of the application. Then they discuss the application as a whole. In fact, he implied that test scores were much less important than other aspects of the application. I don't think you can really prioritize importance of various aspects of the application although I would certainly agree that grades probably top the list. It's much less scientific than this implies. They are looking for interesting kids to complete a diverse class of students. They want people who have explored their passions outside the classroom. They want kids who write well (this was emphasized by the admissions representative--again I'm talking about Arts and Sciences here). Engineering places a lot of emphasis on math and science grades in particular. I think the emphasis will be somewhat different for each of the colleges.

oops...sry i meant to say that was the importance ranking...

umm...one of the admissions officers told me that it helps to pair a face with each application for Hotel. So...no other college requires a face picture?
