WHO DOES DUKE ACCEPT EARLY DECISION>?

Hey guys, I was wondering who does DUKE accept Early Decision. I mean I am out of state with good chances but nothing phenomenal. I mean do most people who get accept ED comprise of: athletes, legacies, in-state, prestigious national and international-ranked award winners in academics, under represented minorities?

I mean I do not fit any of those quotas and so I am curious..

generally, for most schools, the odds are somewhat easier for early applications

what about Duke

I'm sure there are people like that, but it seems to me that Duke accepts highly qualified students who have shown commitment to their school in the ED round. PLENTY of people from this board got in, and sure, a few were legacies, but general students with a "good chance" got in as well. ED is just a way to show you're commitment to Duke.

This girl from my school who faked her way in. Honestly, she's an idiot, but she's had a private counselor for ages. She wore glasses to her interview (she doesn't need glasses) to look smarter. Case and point.

Getting into Duke ED is easier than getting in RD-- plain and simple. Sure, I guess it's a national trend that ED applicants are generally the best applicants, but it's not always the case. There's certainly going to be the legacies, athletes, award winners, URMs, whatever applying ED, but there'll be more applying RD. And also, if you have "good chances" at Duke, you applying early DECISION (not early action) shows your unwavering commitment and ultimate desire to attend the school which speaks volumes.

But Duke only gets about 1,380 applicants for ED. Why is it that Penn who has the same admissions rate for ED, gets way more apps and acceptances? I know that they fill about 50% of their class ED, but still think about it. Wouldn't you presume that the people Duke accepted ED (about 450 people) are more of the athletes, legacies, urms.. etc... I mean I could see that at Penn, the 450 may fit this category and the rest are merely good students. So what do you think about this argument?

Duke fills a much lower percentage of its class ED, I think 20-30ish% instead of half, but the acceptance rate is probably about 30% (whereas for RD its 21-22%)

The 30% includes most athletes and such though

since duke is sicker than penn at athletics, would you presume that most ED applicants have a significant hook?

None of the ED acceptees from my school (which is sending 25 to Duke this year) had any sort of hook.

25 - one word..... WOW

yeah. Save some spots for the rest of us.

im white and got in early with no legacy or athletic status.....

bballstar what were your stats?

I'm also a white, suburban, middle-class male from out of state and got in ED. If you are sure duke is your 1st choice, go ED. It takes a ton of stress out of your senior year.

other thoughts, im still pending between duke and penn, i feel that penn accepts more people with the same rate thus... better chance..?

yeah, Penn places more emphasis on ED

male, middle class, from the backwoods, and white (with nothing that outstanding about himself)

oh yeh, and got in ED
