Who else deferred to regular?

within that '90%' I'm sure there were people who just said "f--- that" and didn't bother sending in extra stuff for the RD round

what extra stuff can you send? Another letter? another SAT? once the floodgates open to the 30,000 RD, there is almost no chance

this just blows. defer really sucks. At least I can concentrate on other great schools.

got deferred also. what can i do to boost my chances for RD? penn is still my first choice. is there anything else that i can do except for keep my grades up?

Damn I wish they had just rejected me outright, I need closure!

i'm choosing to look on the bright side. Maybe now they'll give me an interview and my first semester grades pretty much kick ass so its possible. I m the only one from my school left and nobody else will apply so atleast im better off then the 4 rejected dudes. cheer up homies, anything is possible

Czar I'm sorry to hear you didn't get accepted but hey, deferral still has hope! I hope to see you at Penn in the Fall of '08 :D

thanks...i appreciate it. im not giving up without a fight!

deffffeeerrrrrrrred from wharton

So who knows of some concrete things we can do to up our chances at RD? Are there certain steps we should be taking? Appreciate any and all suggestions here!

radyland: where you deferred or rejected? If you were deferred I wish you the best of luck. That goes to everyone else as well.

I really dont know what to think right now.. Deferred Wharton..
Sending my other applications as soon as I can get everything together..
I want to stay hopeful, they did not reject us after all.. there could still be a chance but... I dunno..

my confidence level is pretty low now, i know wharton is perhaps one of the hardest schools to get into in the country, but i cant help but feel that there is a chance that i wont get into any other colleges either.

"I am not sure about Wharton, but for the special programs (Huntsman, M&T) deferring is no big deal since they want the strongest class available and would often defer people in order to take a overall survey of the applications for the year and pick the best."

So I applied to LSM and was deffered. I know the reading process for Vagelos is that your app is read by the program, then if you are rejected it gets sent to your single degree choice.

Can a dual degree program defer you? And if so will it say in your letter? Or are they just going to blanket defer you and figure it out later.

This is very discouraging. I did everything I could do to increase my chances of getting in. And now they hit me with a deferral to Wharton and it just makes me feel like crud and that I won't get into any other school RD. Sigh sucks to be an asian male.

"sucks to be an asian male"

hah yeah i hear you. i'm an asian female who also got deferred.

not that i'm saying that's the only reason. my stats probably could have been higher, although i definitely tried to compensate with teacher recommendations and essays that i/my counselor thought were pretty kickass.

we'll see what happens come spring time. in the meantime i guess i'll focus on other schools...

Deferred to Wharton. The thing is, is that now over a thousand of us are competing for about 200 spots at UPenn in general (who knows how much for Wharton - I'd guess 50 to 100 openings), so I don't know if this thread will yield anybody advice, because everyone's probably in competition mode now. But good luck to all, and I hope to see some of you at Wharton in Fall '08.

not over a thousand. Some may lose hope and find their dream elsewhere.

^ For Class of 2011:

Penn: Undergraduate Admissions: Statistics for the Class of 2011

looking back at the 2008 decisions thread, there seems to be a thin, almost non-existent difference between the stats of the accepted and the deferred
