Ok thanks - I think this entire process is ridiculous and I’m getting tired of it.

Thanks, jack!

Alright just called them and they’ve being very very ambiguous. First she said yes I was supposed to have also mailed them in, and then she said it IS possible for them to make a decision without the official copy but they would need the copy to verify? I’m not sure what this means. I take it that it is best we get these sent asap though, this may be what i delaying our status change. I asked if I could fax them in and she said that was fine, but the first lady said I had to mail them? I’m just going to get my councilor to fax them in for me right now just to be safe.

Usually different callers get different answers in different conversations… You just were given every possible wildly conflicting answer in a single conversation!

Hopefully it just means all the admissions officers are hard at work *accepting you *and they have clerks answering the phone.

Okay, I have sort of the same problem as some of the others who’ve posted. Apparently I was supposed to mail in my 7th semester grades? I mean, I filled out the online thing. But, I never got a letter saying that they needed my 7th semester grades in the first place. So, is it necessary that I fax in a copy now? I am so confused. This part of the process should have been made more clear to us.

Also, it says my app was forwarded for committee review. I don’t know if that matters. Hehe.

…you’ve got to be kidding me.

kyandui, if you did not get a letter, you didn’t even HAVE to submit then online. So relax!! You’re fine. :)

Also, jackdaniels, by “need the official copy to verify” the person on the phone may have been referring to the fact that admitted students must send a final transcript before they come to USC.

I have no idea what she was referring to. Honestly, as much as I love USC their vague instructions and rude personal with ambiguous responses is really starting to bother me.

Don’t let that one person sour you on USC! Honestly, USC is so welcoming and helpful and flexible - that is NOT representative of the responses you will get from them.

The admissions office is probably very busy - not only with phone calls from anxious applicants and anxious applicant’s parents, they are trying to get all those applicant files completed and out by the 1st. The person answering the phone was most likely a student.

In three years of watching the admissions cycle, I can tell you the answer most consistantly given:

If you are asked to submit grades, submit them. Any way they get them is fine, whether it is online, by FAX, scanned and emailed, or sent by postal mail. USC admissions is uncommonly flexible and will use whatever you send in considering your application. I have had the opportunity to talk with a few admissions officers at USC events and they all stressed this.

If you were not asked in a letter to submit your grades, you do not have to submit them - but you may do so if you think they will help.

Please remember that USC’s notification date is “by April 1st,” so if you have not heard yet it does NOT mean there is something missing from your file. They would have contacted you - more than once - if they needed something! There are many acceptances to come.

Thanks. You make me feel better. :)

I just got waitlisted at UCSB and I looked on the accepted thread; I honestly have no idea how I was waitlisted when I look at the accepted stats. 95% are WAY below mine and I had great ECs. Oh Well!

I will just keep thinknig positively that there will be a big white envelope in my mailbox from USC before April 1!!!

I dont think that the fall grades status is only there if you didnt mail in your mid years… i mailed them in before i submitted them online and im still stuck at the fall grades status

question…Im still waiting to hear from USC. I got like a 31 on my act, have a 5.6 gpa out of 5, and am in a bunch of ECs, but i finished my usc app like pretty close to the deadline. So does the time you submit your application affect how late your notification comes?

^Jgregs47, I don’t think so. I think it depends on which school you applied to and your stats. I applied before the scholarship deadline and didn’t get accepted yet while some people who applied after that deadline already got accepted.

Yes. I also applied very close to the deadline and am in “fall grades”

Also called in to admissions today. After checking my ID, he said my application has not been reviewed by the committee yet. That is why the status (I guess). When I asked when they will review my file. He said in the next few days. and “we will take care of you. don’t have anything to worry about, just give us a few extra days.”
I asked if the class is already filled by now. He said no, and we do not fill a class. We have flexibility of the size.
There you have it. May have something to do with my later application in this case.

well, elan_xu, that’s a relaxing message. lol. which school did you apply to?

Will everyone’s status eventually change?

I called today too just to ake sure they had everything - and they did. The admissions man was sooo nice and he said that it had everything to do with which particular school they were applying to. I took it that they were still deliberating about her application. Its all good. my daughter got into UNC Chapel Hill the other day out of state - so she is feeling like a nice school wants her and the wait is not so terrible anymore!

Arts and Sciences.

To clear up any confusion on when admission decisions will be made, I would suggest you call 213.740.1111 for all admission inquiries, and any engineering applicants can call the Viterbi School of Engineering Office of Admission and Student Affairs directly at 213.740.4530. They can lookup each file and tell you when you can expect an admission decision. This way you don’t have to guess or rely on other people’s experiences. Hope this helps! Fight on!
