Who else is stuck on "We received the fall grades we requested"?

dreamupsided0wn
you seem like the most knowledgeable about this so you are probably right, bit i really don’t get that.
If person A has fall grades and person B has fall grades, and they are both received and we all agree that “forwarded” means the committee is now looking at their application, how is it possible that the one who gets forwarded first is necessary more qualified. Like, how could we know who is more qualified if their “level of qualification” cannot be assessed until their application is looked at, which we all agree occurs during the “forwarded” stage. Maybe I’m missing something here, but I’m just a little confused

I really don’t know. For some reason this is the way I always saw it:

In my head I pictured them separating the applications during the “preliminary review” stage into different batches based on a number of criteria like GPA and test scores… then I pictured them going through each batch and picking the students that stood out of all of the batches and releasing the results by batch.

I honestly have no idea though, that’s just my imagination trying to find reason in the unknown.

Right but if person A and B both got the fall grades request, they would both theoretically be in the same batch. that’s why i’m saying i wouldn’t be surprised if the order in which fall grades turns into forwarded was either geographic, or more likely, by school. I know you’re already on forwarded … what school did you apply to?

Its not out of the realm of possibilities that they create tiers, if it makes things easier for them. Im not, never have been, and never plan on being an admissions officer, so I dont know if thats a possibility, but it seems reasonable to me.

Cinematic Arts. Last week everyone else who applied to SCA also had “fall grades” and a lot of them have been changing to “forwarded” in the last few days.

As for the first part of your response… I picture each school separating their pool of applicants into batches so the status updates would be different based on school as well. I really don’t know though, that’s just an unsupported theory created via defense mechanism. xD

yeah we could both be right or completely wrong lol, you never know
I applied to CLAS, has anyone seen people applying there get from fall grades >> forwarded these last few days?

Ok so just today(might’ve been yesterday cuz i didn’t check) my status changed from the one about not requiring further info to “Your application has been forwarded for committee review”…I’m somewhat ecstatic, and i think my somewhat late status update has something to do with either me being borderline in regards to stats(SAT I Bad, SAT II US His 670, 4.38GPA) or because I’m applying to the school for business administration. I’m REALLY REALLY EXCITED =). Life has been so tough for me with family(dad passed away)…and I just need some glimmer of hope to keep doing this crazy education thing going ugh. I REALL Y REALLY REALLY HOPE THIS IS A GOOD SIGN! GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!

@ ccchris

we hav kinda similar stats and major… so hopefully we both here frm them soon :-D

I still have the “fall grades” status… my stats are 4.0 GPA UW, 1980 SAT and I applied to Marshall. I’m getting impatient!!

I initially had the “We have the fall grades…” status then this weekend it changed to
“forwarded” now it’s back to “We have the fall grades…” I’m guessing this alludes to an imminent rejection. :[

It changed BACK to “fall grades”? That’s so weird, I haven’t seen that happen before.

@ bluegreen2
I dont think that means rejection… dont give up hope!

I don’t know if this will help ease any of your minds, but I just got home from a weekend trip tonight and found an acceptance package from USC sitting on my counter. My status was technically blank on the website and on a few of the other application tabs it just said that my application was complete. I wouldn’t rely too heavily on the status stuff because it seems that even if they haven’t updated yours, you may be receiving letters shortly!

i dont want to sound obnoxious but i’m really losing hope here…

Don’t worry, jackdaniels, I’m sure your status will change within a couple of days. This week random people have been changed to “forwarded” every night.

I applied undeclared, with a second major in a different school. I have EXTREMELY low SAT’s, but mid-range gpa at 3.5 unweighted. I was changed to forwarded on Monday. I am nowhere near any of you on stats. I don’t know if they just didn’t process the people first that had super high stats (like above a certain threshold) because they knew those people would be very well-qualified for other universities and would most likely have applied to a bunch of them. They were probably processed first in order to try to “capture” them in the Trojan excitement. I guess I am saying is that those candidates would give USC greater competition with accepting the admittance offer and they want the chance to be one of the first to admit them.

Then…whoever falls below that threshold is just processed as of the date/time they received their applications. What I am trying to say is I don’t think there is any rhyme or reason to the processing that is going on right now, it is just random based on date/time of application. The only exceptions to that would be by the schools that have supplemental applications/portfolios etc. That just takes much longer, it is like a double review. So if you applied to a school that had supplemental stuff and you were in the 1st cutoff group, you may already have heard. But if you are in a supplemental requirement group and below the threshold, you are just now being processed. It could also be that certain schools (think SCA) prefer to do all their acceptances/rejections on the same day, so they are not letting their decisions be released until they are completely done with everyone. I guess what I am trying to say is that I think it is all about date/time of application at this point, maybe even by last name. Like this employee gets the A’s, B’s, and this employee gets the T, U, V, W’s, and maybe the employees are just slower getting their work done.

Ok…so that was a rambling novel…lol.

jackdaniels, what school did you apply to?

tornados, i’m sure there is something in there that’s clearly making you stand out or else you would not have been even asked for fall grades. good luck!

dream, CLAS and from what I hear … a lot have already been accepted. i keep looking but i’m STILL at fall grades!

tornados - jackdaniels has it right! They are taking a careful look at your application. You are still in the running.

jackdaniels - yes, CLAS has accepted a lot of students, but CLAS accepts far more than any other school, so that doesn’t mean bad news.

Thanks alamemommy and Jackdaniels. I must admit that I impressed that they are taking such care and time with this process. It is impressive and shows their dedication to the process.
