I heard that if you live in the Bay Area you have no chance of getting into Stanford at all (unless you live in Palo Alto). I was just curious to see if this held true this year so let me know...

yee! Stockton, CA!! lol

Congratulations!!! Did many people from your area get in, or for that matter, even apply?

my friend and i both got in, and we're from mountain view/los altos area... about 20 mins away from paly... but yeah the dean of admissions this year really didnt want to accept that many from close by as others in the past have

Believe this is just an evil rumor. Stanford would be passing up on too many great students if this were the case. There may be an interest in perhaps reducing a particular number, but it cutting it out completely I think would do more damage than good...and to publicize it would be completely asinine.

Sooo not true. If anything, they accept a disproportionate number of bay area students compared to elsewhere. (although this might just come from more bay are applicants) But there definitely is no such rule.

I wish I would have known this sooner. My english teacher advised me not to apply and said that he wouldn't even write a reccomendation because they don't accept anyone from the Bay Area in order to avoid regionalizing their school. This makes me really mad at my teacher because I think I would have had a pretty decent shot at getting in. Oh well, what's done is done...

no one would do that for such a talents packed place. actually, the opposite may be true. among 700+ SCEA, there are about 115 of them from Bay Area. A welcome gathering for Bay Area SCEA held in Stanford last month. Over 80 of them with their families showed up.

I got in and I'm from Walnut Creek which is about an hour 1/2 from Stanford!

I'm from a public high school in Oakland, and we've had roughly one person accepted from our school each year to Stanford for the past four years. Don't believe the hype!
