Who Is a Morrill Scholar?

I called the office. Marjorie says that emails will be sent Monday about decisions.

lol this makes me a bit nervous bc normally for other awards/scholarships, they usually send out letters to like the people who got them, wait a while, and then send the rejection letters...lol this is making me reallly nervous

just relax! :) it's hard, though. isn't it?

ohhh yeah definitely, i'd be so disappointed and so would my parents, which would just make life a lot harder haha

i'm with you swimchina.

If I get the scholarship, then my probability of going to OSU is really high. If I don't get it, then hello UT and student loans!

Good luck to everyone on Monday.

jmryan, why wouldn't you go to OSU w/ student loans?

brit, it's a real tough decision!

The good thing about Texas is that claiming residency isn't complicated. The admissions officer at UT told me to get a job across the street (8-10 hours a week) or have my parents buy a condo with my name on it.

To claim residency in Ohio, I think I would have to live in my cousin's house for a year, work, get a driver's license, blah blah and then re-apply to OSU.

if your folks buy you a condo, that's gonna look pretty bad on your fafsa for next year! :p

I didn't apply for a FAFSA.

I unfortunately live in one of those overly pretentious towns where everyone thinks they're better than you because they're rich...i'm the "ghetto" in the town with the used car and non-designer handbag. in comparison to the united states, my parents' income is way above the average. however, we're still struggling since everything in DC is expensive! the FAFSA wouldnt let my sister get anything so they wouldnt let me get anything either.

UT is getting pretty complicated! I'm leaning towards OSU now. I'm going to that Buckeye day thing next week so i'll see if i truly belong there.

I'm in the opposite situation... well, kinda. We make waayyy above normal for the area (pop. 9,000 town, Alabama), but that's still not much everywhere else. My EFC is +16,000 and I'm the only kid going to college this year, so I'm eager to see what OSU think I deserve.

Did your sister apply to OSU as well? I've heard that OSU is kind of generous w/ gift aid sometimes, which is a considerable part of the reason I filled out the FAFSA.

my sister only applied to university of maryland - college park, goes to college park, and probably will live in college park for awhile.

i'm the rebel in the family who's getting out of the state!

OSU already gave me the National Buckeye Award. I'm trying to get plus since i only scored a 25 and i need a 26 for the extra 2000 a year. I'm not sure I'm getting to the Morrill scholarship though. If I do, then its going to sway me to OSU.

I got Buckeye Plus, Provost, and Pathways so far... If I get Morrill, Pathways will be cancelled out, so to speak. I'm really nervous now! I'm praying that I get it, though!

congrats brit on all those scholarships!

has anyone heard back yet?

nope i just checked the mail and theres nothing from osu

It is 1705 EDT, and I have recieved no mail from OSU yet.

Thanks, jmryan. I'm pretty sure Marjorie misinformed me. This calls for a very sad Brittany. I really don't want to do this each day for the rest of the week!

Just got an email from OSU about Morrill Scholarships - I actually went up for an interview for the full-ride a couple of weeks ago but ended up getting just the Prestige Scholarship.

The email was sent at 6:50, but I'm not sure if OSU sends all of them out at the same time or in waves, so hang in there.

As for those worrying about high EFC's and conflicts with the Morrill Scholarship. I can say confidently that our EFC well exceeded tuition + room/board for a year at OSU (FAFSA is not v. generous) and OSU still considered me for the Distinguished. So yeah, don't worry much about that.

Prestige here! :D :D

Congrats! The Prestige is a great award.

Thank you!
