Who are UCI's sports rivals? Does it differ by sport or is there one particular school who always get the Anteaters fired up, ala USC v UCLA or Stanford v Berkeley?

Not entirely sure about this, but I believe it's Cal State Long Beach.

That or UC Davis.

UCSB. At least this is what I think.

Lol, it's not Davis. We hardly play each other in anything. That and it's hard to maintain a rivalry between two campuses on opposite sides of the state.

Thanks guys!

i have only seen uci play davis in soccer

technically Long Beach State is the rival...they're even mentioned in the UCI fight song...but...generally it's them and Cal State Fullerton and UCSB I guess...they aren't exactly huge rivals but they play them regularly and are fairly close. Honestly though, most UCI students don't even know who our official rival is nor could they probably name the conference we play in (Big West).

soooo....I was right?

Haha, not sure why you all harped on my other guess of davis, though. Guess that's just a rivalry between my friends going there and me :p lol

irvine plays davis in everything, thunder. they're both in the same conference.

ucdavis. voiceofreason obv.

Maybe it depends on the context or the sport...I've seen some ferocious water polo games between UCI and UCLA and also between UCI and USC.

Perhaps the new athletic director, once they get one, will work to define a specific rivalry. I think it really helps with school spirit when all of the students can come together across a wide spectrum of sports to cheer their team on against "the enemy" school.

it's long beach state in many sports and irvine fans chant "state school" when playing them....as if irvine isn't which it is.

academically it's probably santa barbara, though there are some good struggles in sports against the gauchos too.

If UCI has a rival, I'd say it's Long Beach. But I really don't think there's much hatred between the schools, nor does either school get really jacked up when the other comes to play. UC Davis is new to the Big West so there's really nothing there in terms of a rivalry. At least not yet.

Back when Utah State was in the Big West and we were both good at basketball, the campus would really go nuts when they would come to the Bren to play us in hoops. But now they're in the MWC.

sorry kid, but the aggies moved to the WAC to join san jose state and fresno state. the only MWC state school we have here is san diego state.
