God I hate Berkeley.

I know it is irrational, but I really do.

Maybe it's because I live so close to the school and that is all anyone walks about...there and Stanford...I detest them both.

Part of me wants to get into UCLA just so I can have my own rivalry with UCB...after all, what is the university experience without some kind of school rivalry...irrational to the hilt! ;)

Anyone else?

:) I am in absolute agreement with you, but for political reasons. I may not be a raging republican(I'm not, I swear), but UCB has a definite far left feel to it. I've never really been impressed by Stanford students, my judgement based on meeting my cousin's(and how my cousin changed after attending both Standford and UCB) peers and how I've seen them represent themselves on TV(note Rose Parade).

the ucla-ucb rivalry isnt really a "hate" rivalry though... more like brother rivalry

but, I've never had brothers.... :) No, you're right, hate is not the word. Hm...it's more like: "I find the actions of UCB students and administrators deplorable."

LOL, Littleol'me, haha!

Yeah - we're the younger sibling who is already kicking the older one's @$$ in sports and dare I say academics :)

and let me have a celebratory 301st post - I now am a full "member", not "junior member" lol :)

ok

Can you only become a full member at 300 posts?

I'm not sure...although I have seen people that have been members for over a year, have less than 300 posts and are still classified as junior members...so it looks as though you do need 300...and really...does it matter? ;)

hell yes....

well, ok, no

Sorry Icarus, I didn't mean to minimize your 300 man. ;)

It's okay to hate schools that are better and more prestigious than your own. Don't worry guys, jealously is a natural human instinct.

Ah rooster, i see you have brought your special brand of delusion over to the UCLA board. here what you do next:

1) Remove head from your posterior
2) Clean the crap off your eyes
3) Find the nearest exit
4) And don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya. ;)

Seriously rooster, you are a nub and I am sick of reading you lame threads on the UCB board.

The only thing I am jealous about UCB is...um...well...man, I can't think of anything.

To be quite honest, I am a Junior from NJ, and no one in my family has gone to Stanford, Berkeley, or UCLA, but I would definitely pick UCLA over the other 2 simply because of its location and nice campus. There is not much of a gap between any of those schools as far as academics, and depending on major, UCLA is better in some fields.

Anyway, who needs to bash where other people want to go? Everyone is different. I know kids that could have gone to an Ivy, and chose a less competative school for other reasons.

Cal's "far left" feel results in what they jokingly call the People's Republic of Berkeley.

A UCLA and Berkeley undergrad education are really not that different and their admission difficulties are at par with one another, despite what some might think. Stanford, by virtue of being a private college, has some luxuries that public schools can't afford, like allowing their students to "shop" for classes, but these luxuries come at a price. All in all, go where you feel "right" and will be willing to attend for the next four (+?) years of your life.

aww jyancy, you're ruining our fun bashing cal :)

The college food chain in California goes something like this:

Stanford > Caltech >>>>>>>> Pomona > Berkeley > UCLA > UCSD > UCSB > Other UC's

Another observation is that the colleges in the Los Angeles area seem to be a bit inferior to the ones in the San Francisco area. For example, Stanford > Caltech and Berkeley > UCLA.

Los Angeles as a whole is a very illiterate city. How do I know? Because I live here!

Well, I think you made your point nicely...
