Who looks better to top colleges?

Here are 6 scenarios:
1) A person that took an AP class and got 5 on the AP test.
2) A person that took an AP class and got 4 on the AP test.
3) A person that took an AP class and got 3 on the AP test.
4) A person who didn't take an AP class but got 5 on the AP test after self studying.
5) A person who didn't take an AP class but got 4 on the AP test after self studying.
6) A person who didn't take an AP class but got 3 on the AP test after self studying.

Rank these. Thanks

There are obviously many factors.

a) The AP test - some are harder than others. Many people self-study Psychology, Economics, Government, etc and get 5's. Other APs such as European History or Chemistry are definitely year-long courses that are almost impossible to self-study.

b) The class grade. If you get a 5 on the AP test and a bad class grade, it can show either that you are supremely intelligent and your teacher is a pig, or you are just really lazy in class/have bad behavior.

Hmm... So colleges DO care about self-studied APs? I self-studied the AP Bio to a 5, kind of on a whim. It would be nice if that helped with admissions.

bump......

Colleges DO care about self-studied AP tests, most definitely.

A person who took college level class as extracurriculars and that scored 4's or 5's on AP coursework that they did in HS.

Self studying....eh, I'm not sure if I've seen anyone do it really. It is kinda a waste of time unless you are disciplined and can structure your time wisely to know all the material before the exam... Eh... I'm not sure if college admissions counselors would see that as a wise way to spend your time. HS isn't suppose to be 1000% on academic activities. They wish to see someone that knows how to spend their time wisely. That is, to distribute fun time with meaningful impactful club or extracurricular activities that you are legitlimately interested in...

College admissions ppl can see right through you guise of taking an extra AP Exam just to get a good score to impress them with. I'm pretty sure they want to see some meaningful experience come from managing your time wisely. Not studying in your room all day!

i think it'd naturally look the best if you took the difficult AP class and got a 5...but it probably is pretty impressive when you didnt take the ap class but still got a 5
