Who or what is a URM?

<p>So what does URM stand for? It may be a stupid question for frequenters on this forum but for others here who just come by and take a glance every so often they may not exactly know these abbreviations common to others.</p>

<p>It depends on the university. Asians officially outnumber whites at the UCs, for example. At a college like Beloit or Clemson, you might be considered an URM.</p>

<p>Haha..Despite the fact that Asians are about 3-4% of the population, Hispanics ~12-14%, and Blacks 13% or so, only the latter two get any preference. Ridiculous.</p>

<p>well w1cked, the point is that they are 3-4% of the nation, and at least 4x as much of the population of college students, thus they are not "underrepresented" in schools</p>
