Who plans to attend UMD?

Congrats to all excepted! Curious as to who knows UMD is where they want to be. For what it's worth, I highly recommend it ;)

I am! I’m very excited  I’m going in as a Bioengineering major.

I cant decide between UMD and JHU (assuming that I get in lol). Honestly, although I’d rather go to JHU, I refuse to spend a quarter million dollars just for an undergrad degree. So, Ill prolly end up at UMD for such financial reasons.

I’m planning on attending there :)

kpopislyfe,

This was a big part of my son’s final choice last year. Johns Hopkins was his first choice, but they wanted a lot of money. He’d have been in debt $50K by graduation. Maryland was free. And the school to which he eventually went is costing me every month, but we don’t have to borrow money to do it.

Hopkins is not terribly generous with aid.

I’m planning on attending.

I’m planning on attending also. As a accounting major in scholars

My D is very likely going to MD. She got accepted into Honors College and Biology LEP, so that’s great. Now waiting to hear if she gets to major in Music, as well. If so, I think it’s a slam dunk.

I tried to talk my D into JHU, but she wanted LARGE university. JHU told us pretty much point blank that if we ran the net price calculator and couldn’t afford what they indicated as our contribution, to look elsewhere! The price was ridiculous so I readily accepted large university, instead. LOL

@Notjoe: Yeah, Ive heard the same from students who currently attend JHU. :/

@LizzieT: Lol, it sounds like you did what my mom is trying to do to me right now! XD Haha, well, in the end, I think Ill be happy at either place! (I hope!!).

I didn’t get into my major (biology), so I don’t know if I really want to go there anymore? What does this mean? They put me in letters and sciences…:(

Definitely the best school in my price range. Wish I could live in Cali or Michigan though.

LizzieT,

“JHU told us pretty much point blank that if we ran the net price calculator and couldn’t afford what they indicated as our contribution, to look elsewhere!”

I actually made an appointment with the financial aid officer. My son’s other two main choices were Maryland for free, or the school at which he wound up for $10K less than Hopkins, no loans, and a better school than Hopkins. He said, and I quote, “I hope your son enjoys one of the other schools.”

LizzieT. Your daughter sounds like mine. She is a freshman at UMD right now. She is a biology major, in Honors, and plays the violin. She decided not to add music as a double degree. She is playing in the repertoire orchestra (non-music majors) this semester. We ran the price calculator for JHU and decided it wasn’t worth spending 250K on a undergrad degree. She also wanted a large university. I was trying to get her to consider a small LAC, but she wanted a large university experience.

Yellowdog99,

You can definitely internally transfer into the Biology program. I believe you need a 2.7 GPA. It is not competitive either I don’t think (Meaning your application is not compared to others).

Congrats everyone!!!

@notjoe - I found it shocking but refreshing. Like a dunk in a cold pool. They must have a lot of people that will pay full fare!

@MDdad2012 - I tried selling LAC’s, too, but D really wanted the city access. Glad to hear that your daughter is happy. Mine had her audition for the music major a few weeks ago and we should be hearing about it in the next few days. If she doesn’t get in she’ll be playing her cello with the non-majors.

Son is attending, got into the scholars program and chose Robert H. Smith program, although he plans to major in computer science. I kind of talked him into the RHS program, I was an accounting major in college! LOL!!

Congrats!

It is a smart move to just apply for smith as a freshman even if one isn’t set on it. That way you are in and don’t have to worry about applying later on.

Comp Sci and Accounting Double! ;)

although you applied to that particular program have you been notified that you were accepted into that particular scholars program. My d submitted her choices but not told which program she was selected to be in

I have applied as a transfer to Maryland for Chemistry. I have a 3.83 GPA (B in Calc1 and Physics 211). I have fulfilled all the requirements so I hope they let me in.

I also have applied to UMBC and I feel like I should give it an equal chance but I have had my heart set on Maryland for a while.

NO, he hasn’t received an official acceptance, but we have faith!! Computer science and accounting together makes for an awesome career. Sombody has to be able to understand those sufficated finacial computing systems big companies use. But I am just a mom talking he has his own mind and ideas!!
