do college admissions actually read "Chance Me's" and think of it as a bad thing???

I don't think so, especially because they seem to have so much work to do this season.

even if they did, why would they care? Obviously kids are eager to hear what their peers think of their chances. It's perfectly normal. And considering that CC'ers tend to have more success in college acceptances, I'd say its almost a good thing :)

Oh, and your parents.

and your classmates -__-

I think some of the posts are helpful but quite frankly the "chance me" posts are in my opinion a real waste of time. It just adds to the hype and stress. College admissions these days is something of a black box (at least at what most people consider the top tier schools) and unless your grades and scores are really out of the norm for the school, what other high school kid can give you a good sense of your chances? And even then, you never know what an admissions officer might see in an applicant's record. Every year, after Stanford admits its freshman class, the admissions dean generally gets quoted in the local papers as saying that based on the strength of the applicant pool, Stanford could admit three freshman classes. I'm sure all of the Ivies and top LAC's could say the same thing. Do admissions officers read the chance me posts--highly unlikely--why would they need to? Also, I think a lot of people on these posts could do a better job of reading more about the schools they are thinking of applying to, their programs, and actually listening to information sessions. I read a post on the Yale thread about a kid who actually submitted a 40-50 page application because he/she wanted to include significant articles they had written and news articles about them. What student who has attended an information session at any school would think that was a good idea? I know that applying to college has gotten a lot more stressful and difficult and there is such an incredible focus on getting into the "best" schools, but there is a life after college. Your success in life is not going to be based on where you went to school but what you did with your life and the effort you put into it.

I love the ones that pretend they're not chances threads but actually are. "It's not a chance thread but I'm gonna post my GPA and test scores and my 2-page EC laundry list anyway."

chances threads are absolutely worthless - you're more likely to get hit by lighting than get an accurate answer on CC. We don't know!!!

People PM me their chances all the time and I just ignore them (it's nothing personal).

^^^ Good point, "too bad I'm guilty as charged, not to you though, I don't think." We really do not know what they think.

I understand your point, but its not like people on CC actually believe other high schoolers will tell them their exact chances. It is more out of curiousity, for the fun of it. For those that don't like them, I understand, but just ignore them - its not that big of a deal.

Who reads these posts? I dont know - but it would be funny, wouldnt it? The truth behind the admissions...cc posts.
