Who said the Pac-10 is a weak conference?

what's up with the Pac-10 refs in Autzen? The ref who did not see a field goal was also the same ref who did not see obvious pass interference on DeSean. hmmmmmm

Wow, amazing game. I got to spend it with my son (who made it on BART & Airbart thanks to you all!) down here in L.A. with a group of Cal alumni in a pub in Santa Monica -- what a rowdy crowd you all are!

Pardon me. I was expecting Cal to go to number #3 after the Florida-LSU game next weekend. Looks like the third ranking is coming this weekend. Or number 2 if USC loses. That'd be awesome for the team, even though only the final ranking really matters.

possible top 5

usc (by a small margin)

lsu

cal

ohio state

wisconsin (overrated)

misterr: i pretty much agree, except that i think LSU might overtake USC. SC did not play well in front of a nat'l tv audience. Guess that's good news for the Cal v SC matchup. So next weekend we want LSU to lose to Florida, then Cal and USC might enter the game undefeated #1 and 2. CRAZY!

check out this article, and the video. it's pretty neat.

3 baby...

now lets hope florida beats LSU next week
then itd be
1-USC, 2-Cal damn that would be sick

ap top 25 has lsu on top by one vote
usa today has usc on top

so we have usc, cal, and oregon as the top teams in the pac-10, but i think arizona state is the 'dark horse' of the conference. asu is definitely a team we should all be watching out for.

your thoughts?

Quick question from this rather neophyte to college football -- who does Cal have to beat -- or perhaps where do they have to be in the rankings -- to get to the Rose Bowl this year?

whoever wins the pac-10 will go to the rose bowl, unless the pac-10 champion is involved in the championship game.

yes, misterr is right. just to clarify though, ASSUMING USC and Cal are undefeated going into their game against each other, the winner will probably end up in the nat'l championship game (and, again, this is assuming that the winner remains undefeated after as well). The loser, therefore, would assume the position as the #2 team in the league, but would take over as the virtual #1 team when the winner goes to the national championship. It sounds confusing, and it is, but that's why we want USC to stay undefeated. So that in case Cal DOES lose, they can still make it to the Rose Bowl.

misterr: I agree with you about ASU, but they always start strong and fade rather quickly, so I'm a little suspect of their record.

^ things have changed quickly with a new head coach. coach erickson has been to the national championship game with miami, so he knows what hes doing.

plus, usc and cal have to play at asu later on. i have a feeling that one team will leave tempe with a win, and the other with a loss

clarification:

if USC is #1 and goes to the national championship, it is no longer the pac 10 #1...it's a team that gets an at large bid, which hopefully in this case will be us

yeah, i think cal might actually have an advantage bc they haven't been in 5 decades, so i'm sure the rose bowl committee would be excited to finally have them.

misterr: perhaps you are right. Cal and USC are all around much stronger teams, but ASU should not be taken lightly. I think if Cal can win at Autzen, they can win in Tempe, but we shall see.

Thanks for all the insight above. I actually GET it!!! I guess the bottom line is, I shouldn't be running out to get my ticket, at least not yet. . . !

Besides, I heard that this week Cal plays BYE, and they have never won against them. . . . :-D

i stand by my old quote. now, just give it up. everyone else has moved past it and you look really, really stupid for not doing the same.

So you stand by your own quote that Pac-10 coaches don't talk smack, even though I have emphatically shown otherwise.

Look at post #9.

So who here is the one that looks really really stupid?

Vc08, every time you post here, I am going to keep throwing your old quote back at you.

That is correct, and the #2 team goes to the Holiday Bowl unless the BCS takes it as an at-large team. Don't count out Mack Brown and the Big 12 or SEC whining-crying publicly for that At-Large BCS slot. What hosed Cal last time was not the number of votes for TX, but the fact that several coaches (those that want to sleep at night since they live in that part of the country) changed their votes on Cal and dropped it a dozen places in the rankings from 6 to 16. By voting for TX over Cal, the Big 12 coaches were voting thier own pocketbook. It happened before and it can happen again.

congratulations! if lsu falls, say hello to the #1 spot!

for one night stanford is your best friend :)

ucla vs nd is so boring/disappointing.

lsu is trailing so far...

I am so shocked at the USC STanford GAME!!!!!!
