are you sure they send the Fin Aid letters to everyone? cauuuusssseeeee i didnt get one… even tho i applied for Fin Aid already… but i dunno… that makes me nervous stilll :/

I have a final in 4 hours and here I am on CC lol.

This is just bloody great. My mom was let go today at work. Now I’m the only one in my family who works (with two jobs no less haha). Last year our income was CAD$90k, this year it’s a few thousand plus a load in employment insurance. This doesn’t bode well for financial aid at all (if I hypothetically get in) … if our contribution is less than $10k, then I can pay for myself for three years and get loans for another year. If it’s more, then it’s a replay of my decision of turning down Berkeley last year.

I think getting rejected might even make my life a whole lot easier =P must… have… optimism…

Lol you guys are so addicted!!! I still didnt get the financial aid mail. Did you guys like not finish the financial aid application. I didnt get my accetance letter nor my acceptance packet yet. Uhhh I’m still checking the mail every hour until I get my acceptance letter haha… (Even though the mail already came) We are all addicted monsters!!!

You are eligible for Cornell’s financial aid initiative…so don’t give up yet!

goddess, Cornell will definitely give you enough money. I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I hope it works out ok, just let FA know about this asap, and you’ll be fine.

Why isn’t this thread at the top? bump!

Where the hell is dupes… =P

Haha, dupes has ditched us. Face it. Strange that it isn’t at the top. I just want this acceptance. Screw everything else in the world.

this is pretty true. I mean, i’m not even turned on by the weekends anymore. that just means it’s a blackout period for absolutely not hearing anything back from cornell…

WITH excess amount of work to do.

yeah pretty much. for engineering, I calculated, if they spend a whole 8 hours a day working, and they look at each app for a whole hour, then it’ll only take them about 32 days or so to finish with all the apps. And apparently each reader spends less than 2 minutes reading each essay. Then there is rigour of curriculum based on course descriptions and recommendation letter and stuff. How long could it possibly take them!

They don’t take an HOUR to look at each app, they spent 20 minutes on a good day.

yeah, that’s what I’d think. That means circa 24 apps a day. Which means about 10-11 days of looking at apps. which is 2 business weeks. Jeez.

there’s no point in freaking out over the wait. you’re still in school, so you’re still doing what you were doing before. the worst that can happen is you’re exactly where you are now. that just means you have the chance to better yourself and try again next year or for grad school. don’t worry guys, it’ll all be okay. :)

exactly where i am now!!! NO!!! i CAN’T be here! that’s why I have a backup…I’ll be alright there, but I REALLY don’t want to have to go to my local school and live at home.

:( did you apply anywhere else? just incase maybe you should look into other schools that are still accepting applications, so then you have a better chance of not being stuck where you are.

no but the thing is, i wouldn’t really care about going anywhere else. unless it was MIT or something maybe. but i got into my safety and stuff but that’s still not where i REALLY want to go.

Northwestern is still accepting apps until May 1, I think.

really? that’s cool.

Yeah, because they’re on quarters, so their admissions deadlines are all staggered differently than semester schools.

huh, interesting. does anybody like the quarter system over the semester system? i haven’t experienced the former before.
