Who's applying to McGill for fall of 2018?

Me  Iā€™m a US high school student.
ACT: 35
Unweighted GPA: 4.0
SAT subject tests: 800 (Ecological Biology) and 800 (Literature)
AP Exams: 5 (Literature), 5 (Language), 5 (World History), and 3 (US History)
I am a National Merit Semifinalist.
I play the violin and I love cartoons! I applied to the arts/science and environmental departments. Iā€™m applying for a scholarship, but I have a feeling my chances are low because I would be an international student, but Iā€™m not sureā€¦ thanks for reading this!

@lucieyh International students are eligible for major scholarships, they are merit based.

Does anyone here know if major scholarship decisions are made at the same time as the offer of admission? I really want to get my application in early because it seems like, from previous years, acceptances for kids far above the requirements got the first notification. Itā€™d be lovely to have a response by Novemberā€¦ Iā€™m applying to the Faculty of Arts with a 35 ACT/4.0 UW/5ā€™s on 5 AP Exams/800 + 750 SAT II, so I would hopefully be part of that first wave. My guidance counselor just needs to print my official transcript (which will happen next week), and then Iā€™ll submit the application, though I might need a little bit more time to work on the scholarship essays.

ā€œDoes anyone here know if major scholarship decisions are made at the same time as the offer of admission?ā€

At other Canadian universities we have gotten offers of admission quite a bit sooner than scholarship offers. At McGill my daughter who applied was admitted but wasnā€™t offered a scholarship.

@writergirl0316 Iā€™m pretty sure you can upload a PDF of your transcript. No need to mail a copy.

Edit: Yes, they want you to upload your unofficial transcript electronically. Only mail the official version if/when enrolling.

Thanks! I assumed that admission comes out before scholarship information. Iā€™m going to wait to get an updated transcript next week because the unofficial one I have right now doesnā€™t include rank (which the scholarship page says they consider). @DadTwoGirls @ShrimpBurrito

Which faculty/ies was your son accepted into?

oops sorry for the double reply

@SwimmingDad Iā€™m new to cc and am not sure if I need to tag you in order for you to see my response

@rueece You do need to tag. My son is in the Faculty of Arts.

What ACT score is generally considered ā€œsafeā€ when applying?

@FitzgeraldFan77

The minimum ranges from 26 to 30 depending on program. So a 27-31 would be somewhat safe assuming that your unweighted GPA is above (not at) the minimum.

@SwimmingDad thanks! Iā€™m thinking of applying early December to hopefully raise my chances of admission. Did you find that the time at which your son applied got him a quicker response if he did apply a month or so before the deadline?

@TomSrOfBoston youā€™re all over the McGill forums haha
May I ask how you are so informed on the McGill admissions process?

@rueece My son is a McGill alumnus. The McGill admission process is straight forward compared to US colleges. Itā€™s all numbers.

@rueece My son applied in late October. When they start, admissions tends to start at the kids with the highest grades and scores. You will be able to see when they have made a pass through your application. For most kids not right at the top, they ask for first semester senior year grades. My kidsā€™ school is in New England so on a bit of a later calendar. As I recall, it was into February by the time they were uploaded into Minerva. From there, he heard pretty soon thereafter. Best of luck.

Anyone chance me? Applying to Arts
GPA: 3.8-3.9 (estimate)
SAT: 1440
SAT II: 720 Lit, 780 US history

@zorgan read what @TomSrOfBoston said to me. You have the same stats as I do

@zorgan if that gpa is uw u probably have a good chance

anyone applied and heard back yet? Not sure if they would be accepting this early though
