So, I definitely need to see downtown LA, since i've never been there. Anyone willing to go with me? (maybe I'll make my host take me) Also, I think I'll check out UCLA while I'm here. Anyone wanna travel with me? (I don't really know how i'll get to UCLA. Probably public transportation or something)-- I think this might be safer than being alone, but I'll talk it over with my parents and see what they think.

There's nothing to see in downtown LA, trust me. The best things to check out are the Exposition Park museums, which are all next to campus. Westwood, on the other hand, is a pretty nice place, I have to admit. But don't take a bus alone; it can be pretty freaky.

If you are seeking places to shop, then I'd recommend the Grove or Santa Monica.

redski, How would you suggest I get from USC to UCLA?

this sucks. not to be a poop, but my sat is higher than all of yours and i still haven't heard... my other stats are good too... i hope i hear in the next wave...

(i'm not trying to be pompous... i'm just nervous...)

i probably just sounded totally full of myself. sorry. i'm all nerves right now...

Your host has already had to sign a contract guranteeing that they will not take you far off campus or to the row. If they break the contract, they can get into very serious trouble with the school. Its an insurance thing.

There are things to see in downtown LA, but they aren't what people would consider the reason to travel to CA. I have no idea how to get between the campuses other than a car.

You can find bus routes here <a href="http://www.mta.net/default.asp%5B/url%5D">http://www.mta.net/default.asp</a>
Another place to look is <a href="http://www.ladottransit.com/%5B/url%5D">http://www.ladottransit.com/</a> that has the DASH and Commuter Express routes and these buses don't seem shady as the mta buses but they have limited times. For UCLA check out
<a href="http://www.ladottransit.com/comexp/routes/431/431.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.ladottransit.com/comexp/routes/431/431.html</a></p>

Hey, do the scholarship applicants need to bring a $40 check for the Explore USC fee? Thanks

sunnydaysee, is there a reason why one wouldn't take route 534 (comuter express) to UCLA instead?

fallenstar-according to my understanding, "explorers" should bring a $40 check (and that medical card thing)

All explore people are scholarship applicants, so yes.

Oh, the 431 goes to UCLA during the afternoon, while the 534 goes in the morning. So whichever is more convienient for you. I was looking at the site rather quickly so I didn't give you both routes.

so if i got an invitation to go to explore, that means i made it by the scholarship deadline? because i cut it real close with the post office/last shipment before the deadline thing

where you are from: Oregon

what school you are applying to: Leventhal School of Accounting

best combined SAT/ ACT: 31 ACT/2160 SAT (retook)

is USC your first choice? It's definately up there

why did u apply to USC? Business/Accounting program. Good school.

parents coming? Still up in the air.

Major question...Should my parents or one of them come? We've already visited the campus and I figure USC will just try to sell them the school more, so I don't know what to do. I need to sign up soon.

where you are from: North-west Florida

what school you are applying to: College of Letters, Arts and Sciences

best combined SAT/ ACT: 29

is USC your first choice? Right now, yes

why did u apply to USC? For the heck of it. Linguistics there is pretty good from what I hear...

parents coming? My mom.

I've never been to L.A. or any other state west of MS. Is L.A. a good college city? My mom's major concern about USC is the cost of living and food in L.A. Anyone live there?
