since you live so close to the school, what do you think of the area? I know there have been lots of talk on different threads about the area around USC, but curious to ask someone who lives close. Thanks for your help.

Guitars, the area around USC in my opinion is not as bad as some say. On one side, across the street, you have a huge green space and gardens (major rose garden), and Expostion Park area which houses the Science Museum, Natural History Museum, and a bit further, the Colisuem (outdoor sports arena, and historic monument). Exposition Park has a lot of visitors that wander around, and is perfectly safe (though I've only been during daytime). Other three sides...a major road, then parallel to that the freeway, and other sides working class residential areas, which I've also only gone through in daytime. Not so great visually, but it's working class. Once, before we drove into the campus, we stopped by a MacDonalds nearby to use the restroom, it was a Sunday, and it was full of Hispanic families, big families...all ages, kids etc, out for their Sunday brunch I guess, all laughing and having a great time. I got a good feeling, and figured that the surrounding neighborhood was home to most of them. A lot of families. Sure, there are probably some bad elements around as in any working class area, but I got no sense it's a seedy or dangerous area. No, it's certainly not as nice as Westwood (UCLA), at all, and its wealthy leafy area around there, and it's true the area around USC is probably sketchy at night, but the USC campus itself is very green, with trees, lots of fountains, very nice, attractive buildings and wide pedestrian avenues.

Thank you so much for your thoughts. I hear from people who have children there and they say that the area is not as bad as people say. People who have graduated from USC also say it's not that bad and they LOVED it.

Thanks again and good luck with your daughter on her interview

^Thank you! Good luck to your son too!

Good luck all around. And for those coming from out of state--looks like they are predicting cool temps (highs in the low 60s for daytime, 40s at night) and rain on Friday. All could change, but umbrellas are a good idea. :)

My daughter is going to Presidential on 28/29--we live in the SF Bay Area.

good luck to everyone! scholarship interviews begin tomorrow and go on for the next few weeks! i'll be there monday
