who's got the biggest reach?

wow, i'm pretty tired of people with 4.6 gpas and 2360s that have their own fortune 500 companies posting threads w/ titles like: do i have even have a chance? :((((

so i'm posting my own huge reaches! brown, stanford, pomona, swarthmore, wesleyan, wellesley, boston univ, bryn mawr, nyu

the stuff that makes them reaches: an awful experience that led to a 580 math sat II, a 3.7 uw/4.0w gpa, a 117/350 ish ranking (my school is super competitive but doesn't officially rank).

these are what REAL reaches are like. yeeep.

Cal
UCLA

2.81 UC GPA
770m 690v 640w (2100) SAT

Considering both schools consider GPA to be the most important aspect of the admission by far..I would say those are pretty impossible reaches

UCLA
UCB

3.73 GPA
1840 SAT
710 + 550 SAT II's

yeh... super reaches

I'm applying to Carleton and Wellesley with 24 on ACT, didn't even bother with SAT....

I just want to thank all of you for posting on this thread. I come from a nowhere public school in hicville Wisconsin where everybody complacently enrolls in a UW school. My guidance counselors have never had anyone apply East Coast so I feel like my dreams of NYU, BC, and Brown are a shot in the dark. Thanks for showing your faces amongst the scary academic robots that comprise this website. :D

Here I go: Penn, JHU, USC, Case western
SAT: 630w/670cr/610m highest combined
ACT: 28
gpa: 3.882w/3.7uw (with a C+)
71/437
Terrible EC's

w00t go us!

Brown, Wash U, JHU
SAT: 2270 (my only redeeming factor)
Gpa: 3.4 (C+ in pre-cal both semesters jr. year).

GPA: 1.3
Rank: 252/386
New SAT: 870
ECs: One club, 1 hour a week
Applying to: Harvard, Yale, Brown, Columbia, MIT

Just kidding.

My big reach is Brown, which I applied ED to. I find out in six days. Here are my stats:

GPA: 4.43/3.43
Rank: 47/398
SATs: V-700, M-640, W-550 (I'm hoping they will overlook this because I have a great essay)
good ecs and leadership (nothing outstanding), went to NC Governor's school for art, great interview.

I have an ok profile, but probably not good enough for Brown.

Columbia, Stanford, Northwestern...

GPA: 3.0 (Sprinkled with a few Cs and a D... in Precalc. A math class. Damn)
Rank: Not sure exactly... barely top 10%
SAT: V-760, M-680, W-710 (My best hope, but it doesn't quite make up for my GPA)

Aeggie, you are in the top 10% with 3.0?! Wow, your school must be VERY competitive!

Well... I don't know my exact GPA... I just know it's in between a 3.0 and a 3.4. I just went with the low one this time. Weird, but, I haven't been too number-focused, or worried about that sort of thing. A lot of the schools I'm applying to are going to be an uphill climb, but if I don't get in then that's it and it's over and there's no crying or freaking out.

I am sure that I'm top 10%, and those are my scores, but that's as much as I do know for sure.

Edit: Our average SAT score is something like 980. And only 30% of seniors take the test at all. So, yeah, tough competition.

duke= Uber Reach

gpa: 3.83w
sat=2100 (680m&v; 740w)
sat IIs= math2:610; chem 680
okay ecs
only 1 actually nationally known award

haha, i hate goldshadow. i was like, wow...1.8?

we rock. i'm glad icz_skaycho feels better. because i started this post to show that hopefully everyone on cc IS just the freakishly good 1% of applicants.

Yay Im So Glad For This Post ! Those 4.6 People Were Seriously Scaring Me...like Wowwwww I Can Barely Pull Off A 4.0

Ucb
Ucla

3.85 W / 3.7 Uw

Ahh Reach

Sat's Dec. Don't Know Yet But Prolly In The 500s For Each One
Sat 2 Chinese 770 And Im Chinese =/

Mannn These Threads Are Seriously Depressing But I Keep Comeing Back

this thread made my day :), I wasn't the only one who applied to high reach schools with low stats! (mine is the worst of the worst tho..)

Columbia, Duke, Brown
GPA: 3.88 UW (out of 4.0, we do not have weighted system)
ACT: 27
SATI : V-550, M-800, W-600
SATII: IIC-770, Chem-740

Northwestern ED with a 3.5 UW!

APFREAK. (10 char rule)

2140 SAT (750 CR, 660 M, 730 W), 3.9 (soon to be 3.7ish) unweighted, pretty much no ECs other than gymnastics and swim...SAT IIs in Math IIC, Literature, Bio M (guessing 480, 700, and 650 respectively)...

...applying to Brown and UNC. Do I win?

You have a 3.7 and you think you are reaching? HA

Quite frankly if your GPA is above 3.5 and you have a hard courseload you stand somewhat of a chance almost anywhere

I feel you on the SAT II, I bombed that. I did decent on SAT I though (720M 650+650 for the oh-so-annoying inflated verbal section(s))
