Who's thinking about/going to appeal?

Rejected today. USC was my first choice. It doesn't hurt as much as I thought it would but I'm thinking about appealing. Anyone have any tips? I don't know much about the process so if anyone can tell me anything let me know!

Also, do appeal-ers get a good amount of aid?

USC was my #1 as well. I would really appreciate tips from those of you who have appealed in the past.

i’m definitely appealing!! usc was my top choice too…

also appealing…top choice

i’d appeal if I actually had new information but sadly I do not.

^^same…:(

oops, well, i’m acutally going to appeal, but i don’t have any new information. great…

heck yes im appealing…top choice…

mmm. i dont really know about the new info thingy,
would you guys think it would help to
tell them im actually half laotian/ half chinese as opposed to just full chinese (the app didnt have an option for laotian, so i just checked chinese)
and that im from the hood in richmond… most dangerous city in cali

also have the same question as likeme about appeals and finan aid

i think i am going to appeal but have no idea what to write about ahha

hmmm… does anyone know if you can appeal to SCA Production?

I do have “new and compelling information”…

 1. Nationally recognized as a silver medalist for Film & Video in the Scholastic Art & Writing competition
 2. Was just awarded the “promising young filmmaker award” at the 4th largest independent film fest in the U.S.

Do you guys think this would be enough to change their minds? Exactly how awesome does your new info have to be to get in? Thanks!

umm yeah i think it would if it doesnt they have to be crazy.

Well, I’m pretty sure that SCA is pretty final about their decisions… they’ve taken 50 and they probably don’t want to take anymore… idk if I’m going to appeal… oi vey.

uchopeful73>>would you guys think it would help to

Wow! How did you omit this critically important information from your application. Undrstood, there was no option for laotian in the race column, but there are so many other sections to describe this. This could be a major hook. I mean you are not just a laotian, but half laotian. I don’t think you should wait for a letter appeal. Just call the Dean of Admissions first thing in the morning. They have not completed their scholarship letters yet. So contact soon.

p.s. Just don’t tell them your screen name is uc-hopeful.

I’m definitely appealing…I knew what was bad in my app and I have a good explanation so hopefully it helps.

Honestly, that would probably be detrimental to their view of you.

You might be able to tactfully form a basis off of this, but be careful - sob stories are also detrimental. Emphasize the obstacles that you have overcome and what you have learned, not “omg but I’m from the ghetto!” (I live in a rough area too.)

So you actually have to have somewhat improved/have new info to appeal? I was just going to argue and scream and tantrum my way in…it’s worth a shot…

you have to convince them that they missed something and that you deserve a spot in the entering class. Don’t try and tell them that they were flat-out wrong and insult their intelligence.

“argue” “scream” and “tantrum” are all efficient ways to further yourself from a spot at USC.

Dude. I was joking.

Son Rejected - applied to Marshall. No update since 1/03. Rejection letter arrived today. Letter dated 3/27

He is a freshman admit to Kelley and he went to the scholars reception and liked the school and the people, but he really really loves USC. My husband and I are very happy with Kelley, plus it is rated higher than USC in Marketing, especially Sports Marketing and we were impressed with Indiana in general .

So I asked my son what he wants to do, and he is going to appeal. He won the states Deca in 2 events, written test and roleplay for the 3rd year in a row in Sports Marketing, hopefully that will be the “new” information. Also he is getting 2 recs, he didn’t submit them with the first application, perhaps that was one of the factors, though I believe it was his low SAT - 1910. He didn’t take one of those prep classes for the SAT, now he’s regretting he didn’t. Also, he was too busy playing football in the fall (it took up all his time) and didn’t have time for the one on one interview.

As far as the appeal, there may indeed be some extra spots this year if more than usual turn down USC because they don’t want the burden of loans or their parents are reluctant to take out loans in this economy. So I guess it dosn’t hurt to try if you have your heart set on USC.

My first son got into SCA in 2005- he had high SATs (no prep class either, but he scored high and only took it once ), the out of this world recs and the one on one interview, so for next years applicants it is important to do everything
