Why Air Force

Why did you (THE CADETS) or other applicants choose the AIR FORCE ACAdemy over West Point, NAvy and the other service academys?

As far as the Academies themselves go, I was actually drawn a bit more to West Point than the others. But I went Air Force for the following reasons:

I wanted to fly. The Air Force is without any shadow of a doubt the #1 place to do that. You can fly in the Navy, but it's incredibly elitist, and in the Army, there are only helicopters, which is also a hard route.

Nearly every officer I talked to, regardless of their service, recommended the Air Force for the lifestyle. In addition, if you're interested in any form of engineering or science, the Air Force is the top place for research, projects, and everything that entails any scientific field.

I didn't like the idea of going to Iraq with a gun and a platoon as soon as I graduated, which was more likely at West Point. I also don't like being on a ship. There goes Navy, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines. I like the idea of a comfortable deployment base not too close to dangerous areas. Looks like Air Force was the way to go. :)

G4C-Are you back on the Hill? How did ops go for you?

Still "the mom" since Falcons isn't finished with BCT just yet - hours to go!!!

Good question, but the answers will probably provoke an argument on some thread on here !!!!

Just remember, before the arguing starts, that each person has their own reasons and that doesn't make them right or wrong.

I am...ops was all right I guess, Ohio is only so entertaining. :)

i never looked at the other academies. i wanted air force to 1) fly, and 2) the family lifestyle which i had been told was best in the Air force from AF, Navy, and Army officers.

Only AF, didn't even consider they others.
