My GPA: 3.4 (as of right now, I am in 7 AP classes this year, however)
SAT: 1800 (550 CR, 610 Math, 640 Writing)
ACT: 28

According to this data summary of UCF's 2011 acceptance, nearly no one with my credentials was denied or even wait-listed, yet I've been on the wait-list for right around one month now. I applied sometime in the middle of September, and they put me on the wait list in late September/early October (I don't remember which) and I'm STILL on it. Can anyone offer insight as to why this might be? Thanks!

Also, I participated in National English Honors Society, the robotics club, and SECME (engineering/mathematics), so I'm well versified in extra-curricular activities.

Are you just venting or are you sincerely inquiring as to why you were
wait-listed and seeking advice on how to gain admission ?

In my opinion, many qualified applicants are turned away due to the school’s limited resources and without viewing your entire application, it is very difficult to determine why you were wait-listed but based on a review of your stats, possibly your GPA was your demise. Also, your current AP courses will not help increase your overall GPA.

OBVIOUSLY you will need to contact admissions and possibly they can direct you as to what you need to do in order to increase your chances at admission.

To answer your first question, “I applied sometime in the middle of September, and they put me on the wait list in late September/early October (I don’t remember which) and I’m STILL on it. Can anyone offer insight as to why this might be?” suggests that I was inquiring, not venting.

I was asking for ideas, obviously not finite answers. I doubt anyone replying to the forums would be from the admissions office and know exactly WHY I’ve been wait-listed. I was looking more for answers from others who maybe knew more about how the application process goes as far as the conditions which determine how selective colleges are.

All that aside, I probably figured that it was my GPA as it’s a little sub-par.

“All that aside, I probably figured that it was my GPA as it’s a little sub-par”

You answered your own question.

If I may offer you a piece of advise. From what I remembered, those freshman applicants usually placed on a wait-list @ UCF may be offered admission during the last cycle of the rolling admission process which coincides with currently accepted applicants at UCF who are still pending a decision from UFL / FSU. Many accepted applicants @ UCF will decline their acceptance the moment they are offered a spot with UFL / FSU and many spots will usually open up around March and hopefully you will obtain an acceptance at that time.

GoodLuck !

Depends did you apply for Summer or Fall?

I applied for the Fall term.

Yea, Fall is highly competitive, you test scores are really good but their average GPA is like a 3.7

It must be your GPA holding you back. I got accepted with a 3.8W GPA, 27 ACT and 2040 SAT. I’d suggest sending your transcripts again with a better GPA once the semester ends. Good luck!

Now, when I say this, I don’t want other individuals who applied to UCF and did not gain admission to go running and pointing fingers. HOWEVER, even though you applied for fall, they should have defered you for summer term. At the LEAST, they should have defered you for first semester grades. You have a very good ACT score, and that GPA is in a good range for summer term. So I suggest getting into contact with someone in undergraduate admissions, and politely and positivley ask if you would be able to reaply for summer term, and if they could point out anything particular that was bad about the application. Should you expect an answer? No. However, someone may check over your application again, and maybe see a mistake within it. In other words, UCF could have lost/misplaced/switched important documents, or accidently put you on the waiting list, rather then accepted or defered. Am I immediatly assuming that something was mixed up, and this is a mistake? No, but I am saying that this doesn’t feel right. There’s 60,000 students at this school-mistakes happen, I would know, I was in the position last year. Just my opinion, though, take it lightly:)

If you were waitlisted, finding out about acceptance most likely won’t happen before May, when the accepted applicants have made their decisions and UCF knows how many slots become available. That being said, the best way to possibly gain acceptance is reapply for Summer. There is a form to change the requested term, with an area where you can fill in a statement. Good Luck!

Thanks for your replies every one! Like I said above, I am taking 7 AP classes this year, so hopefully resubmitting my transcript at the end of the semester will help out quite a bit. If all else fails, however, I’ll just heed your advice and apply for the summer term.
