Hi everyone, my Phase 1 enrollment was this morning. I’m trying to enroll in Anthro 1, and the section I want has 8 open seats while the lecture has around 105. There are only 10 reserved seats for Anthropology, but somehow I’m 12th on the waitlist? Why? I can’t find any reason why there would already be a waitlist for the lecture.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks
I don’t have a good answer. I’ll assume you are a freshman? Maybe someone changed the rules such that the remaining seats are reserved only for sophomore/junior/seniors… Beginning classes in some other majors such as Econ 1 and Sociology 1 do this. Did you ask anyone in Anthro about this?
I don’t know the answer specifically for your university or for your class. In general however, sometimes spots in classes are reserved for seniors (since they can’t take the class next year if they miss it this year) or for students majoring in the subject (since they may need the class for a course sequence). Very often these spots will become available after a particular date.
There were a couple of cases when I was in university where I sat in on a class that I was not signed up for, for the first few days. In each case I was able to sign up for the class with the professor’s permission by the end of the first week. The fact that I had been sitting in the front row and that the professor therefore recognized me might not have hurt my chances.
You might want to see if you can talk in person with the professor for the class. By very polite and very respectful regardless of what he or she says.
HI, thanks for the help. The class is mostly taken by Freshman and Sophomore like me to meet a breadth requirement. The reserved seats for classes are always stated, and there are still 106 unreserved seats. I know some of my friends who enrolled in the class with no problem. I’ll try to wait it out.
@sonyadesmond Did you solve your problem? The ANTHRO 1 class still has available seats (unreserved, i.e., unrestricted), may be you can try today again, if the system didn’t “process” you into the enrolled space form the waitlist on its own yet. I know a similar problem was happening to my kid day before yesterday when he was trying to get ANTHRO 2AC (which, btw, satisfied American Cultures requirement as well). There were plenty of seat available, but the system din’t let him in. He ended up registering for ANTHRO 3AC, and then swapping into ANTHRO 2AC. The system sometimes has glitches, that’s all. If you have time, - you can walk into the registrar office or to the Anthropology department and try to resolve the issue if it is still there.
