Why am I not winning any scholarships? :(

I did consider other options, however, I did not have the money to pay for EVERY App Fees, placement tests, things like that. @blossom

Where could I find my EFC? Would that be on my FAFSA SAR? Or do I have to wait for ASU to let me know?

Love, I am not criticizing you. I am pointing out that while everyone here (and I’m sure everyone in your real life) hopes that you can swing the payments for ASU, the reality of the loan limitations, the fact that outside scholarships at this point are likely not renewable (i.e. if you win $750 from a local organization that’s a one time only thing- so you’ll have a hole to fill sophomore year, AND costs will go up), and the fact that you are late in the game for ROTC, means that you need a back up plan.

Attacking people who are trying to help you doesn’t get you closer to your goal.

Yes, your FAFSA EFC is on your FAFSA SAR.

There is nothing about EFC on mine. Where specifically to find it? I have looked over this paper like 10 times! :open_mouth:

What Blossom said. We just want you to go in understanding financially where you will be on day 1 is all. We want you to know you won’t run short while you still have time to do something about it!!

What can mom/dad pay
+earnings
+$5500 loan
+any grant from NPC

Yes, your EFC is on your FAFSA SAR. what does it say?

Your parents have a high income. What are saying about how much they’ll pay each year? Please ask them.

I think you need to contact Barrett and see if they can give you a larger merit scholarship so that you can afford to accept.

Do you qualify for any state merit awards for your grades? I thought that the state of AZ had some kind of merit program.

Are you saying that the FAFSA data part is blank? When did you submit your FAFSA?

Here is something that was in the box under: "2015-2016 Electronic Student Aid Report (SAR))
EFC: 029469 Would it be this? :open_mouth:

Are you sure that your FAFSA was properly submitted?

Yes, that means your EFC is $29.469.

Meaning - your family is expected to contribute AT LEAST that much toward your education every year. The school is supposed to make up the difference between that (your EFC) and the total cost of attendance (COA). However, most schools do not meet full need.

I assume so, this is what is under my Finances tab on my ASU page for both 2015-2016, and 2016-2017:
“ASU is reviewing your submitted documents and will notify you of any additional items needed to complete your file. If no other items are needed, you will be notified of your financial aid award package. This process may take up to four weeks.” @mom2collegekids

@whitespace Thank you!!!

So your dilemma is what others have said. You have your $1200 grant (first year only) and you can only take out $5500 your first year in loans. Meaning that you can only afford to pay about $6000 per year. You need to sit down with your parents and have a long talk about how much they are going to contribute toward your education.

My EFC for 2016-2017 is: 28,128 What $1,200 grant? @whitespace My apologies. You are speaking about my AmeriCorps educational award.

You said you will get $1200 from AmeriCorps. Split over 4 years, that is $300 each year.

If you work every summer, you can likely earn an additional $3000, bringing what you could pay without any parental support up to $9000/year. BUT that would leave you with a HUGE amount of debt at the end of four years. That is not something you want.

The $1200 you said you would receive for the 300 hours of service.

Thank you @whitespace.! and to all others I guess I will just continue working as best as I can. I don’t want to rely on my parents for help, as they are not the ones who need a degree, I do. Thank you all who took the time to write, offer support, and give advice. It has helped!!!
