Why are most minorities underachieveing?

this is truth.

This is 100% true. This is also no reason why an individual can’t choose to do something different.

You claim the white value education and africans don’t, but the truth is that once the northern barbarians took over Rome, the MIDDLE EASTERN people taught the priests who in turn taught the masses of white people

an individual can choose to do whatever they want, but statistically they will not. and if they do, then statistically they will fail. your will is not free and your future is predetermined.

also my point was just as relevant as “blacks in america are arguably more religious than whites.”

I honestly think the blame lies in the wealthy classes. The wealthy class is comprised of mostly white people, and always has been, but it was not the whole population of white people.

^^ Your will is free and your future is not determined. Natasha Bedingfield said so.

Statistics are irrelevant to the individual, house said so.

funstuff is silly, i said so

^ lower class whites were just as racist as wealthy ones

I don’t think history has anything to do with why African Americans are underachieving. Blacks during the 60s and 50s were desperate for a quality education; something happened over the past 30 years that changed the African American perspective a quality eduction.

I live in a very wealthy part of Virginia and I still see “ghetto” people walking down the halls at school. For some reason, the ghetto life is somewhat idolized in black culture - even if you don’t live in the ghetto.

A combination of bad parenting and culture is what leads many African Americans to do worse in school - not white people.

No idea about Hispanics though.

yes. but why were they racist? because of the upper class whites. they were dirt poor and often times poor whites were hired to do work deemed too dangerous even for slaves. because if the slave dies, you lose that property value. if the poor white dies, he’s dead, plus you don’t have to pay them. so these poor whites were, in essence, below slaves. they hated this, of course, and clung to their skin color to try and feel worthy.

^Yes many african americans were hungry for an education, but back in the 50s and 60s racial tensions were at a high, thus leaving many education hungry african american poor, and as a result, poverty strikes, education is put on the back burner because children had to find ways to make money so there families would survive

Wow I leave for a few, I come back and you guys are talking about rich white people.

From what I know children of African immigrants are the ones who excel the most. Education is highly valued. But, with Blacks who have been here for generations sports is the main point (This is what I gathered from the thread). The only way to change that is by having more Black kids achieving in school, they can set an example. And this can end the cycle.

I noticed Black kids who do well in school are called “acting white”, that needs to stop.

we’re not talking about african americans. african immigrants belong to an entirely different culture than american black people.

the entire culture black people have is strictly because of white people. if that isn’t making sense, read back a page or two. some people have made some great posts breaking that point down.

I’ve never heard that, ‘acting white.’ That is terrible.

At my school, if anyone tries to do well, other people usually try and pull them down immediately. Insults and all that. I think what plays a large part in keeping people down, is other people pushing them down because of jealousy.

^Yep, definitely jealousy and insecurity. That’s what makes it so hard for a lot of black people to move up in the world. It’s not just a matter of saying, “I’ve just realized something: I want to go to college and be smart and successful!!!” When you’re surrounded by people who put you down for it, it can make you feel ashamed.

In the end, noone has had it worst than Native Americans

^^ Okay, now we’ve gone from whites holding blacks down to blacks holding themselves down. I think both are BS. Why don’t we stop making excuses and just leave it up to the individual to make their decision? There are plenty of blacks on this forum and many smart blacks at my school who chose to achieve. Don’t devalue their accomplishments by saying that everyone who didn’t make the same choice has 1000 different excuses for why they didn’t.

plus one for funstuff

^^True. It seems like Blacks and Hispanics will move up. But N. Americans seems a bit stuck, since they lack so much opportunities.

I mean, when’s the last time you’ve seen a Native American in public? I haven’t in my whole life
