<p>Because many parents have the unrealistic expectation that someone, ANYONE, will do the dirty work for them and all they have to do is write the check when the time comes. That someone may be a guidance counselor, school recruiter, admissions officer, or the student. These are also the detached parents who send their kids away unprepared because everyone else is going away. They, incorrectly, figure that somewhere along the line a safety net or a hand of God or SOMETHING will point their child in the right direction…not realizing or accepting that someone should be them.</p>
<p>In the end it’s about laziness or ignorance. ANYONE with an internet connection and the ability to read can educate themselves on the college process. Having a HS which is involved is simply an additional tool. Our HS offers college fairs and all sorts of seminars and for the most part walks the parents through the process. Even then, the counselors have only so much time and interest in doing for the students what the parents can do themselves. Thus, you will get back what you put into the process.</p>
