For IS/OOS students, how did you hear about UMN and why did you decide to apply/go there?
I heard about the UMN through my cousins, counselor, and frequent emails/snail mail from the school.
I decided to apply to the UMN because of the relatively low tuition rate in comparison to other universities. Also, the fact that I got a really great financial aid/scholarship from the U was also a huge deal breaker for me.
When I visited the campus this year, I just felt this really “at home” vibe. I had visited Northwestern University (in Evanston) a few weeks before, but there was something about the U that just felt comfortable and vibrant. Many of the students and the atmosphere within the school just felt like a place that cultivates creativity, but also fosters really great opportunities to connect with students and faculty. When I first stepped onto the campus, I knew this was the right fit for me.
I’m hoping to pursue a career in Public Health, so after finding out about the Global Studies major, I was extremely attracted to the idea of sort of “customizing” the major since you pick one area of focus/cause and one concentration/region.
I also have a lot of family that attends the U and because of the pre-existing connections I have to the community, I feel like that would be my advantage on committing to this school.
So to summarize, there was a myriad of reasons why I attended the U: finances, campus vibe, and pre-existing connections to the staff and students.
