Why Brown?

hey guys i just wanted to know for most of you is Brown your first choice if u could get accepted to any college u applied to??

Also what is so good about Brown besides the fact that there is no core curriculum, and is that available at other ivy leagues schools or only Brown???

Can someone tell me what makes brown better than the rest of the ivy league university’s??
Is there something which sets it apart by far or is HYPS better than Brown???

I was talking to my interviewer and she told that Brown rocks but I don’t know why besides the fact its ivy league ???

Brown is my first choice. Even if they offered me admission to Harvard, I'll look twice, but I think I'll still end up with Brown.

Each university is great in its own aspect. So is each person. Find out which one suits you best/which one you think you'll fit into more, and apply.

You sound quite nervous :)

Well, besides the fact that Brown is an Ivy-league it also happens to be just about 30 minutes away from my home. This is a HUGE plus for me because I would like to live at home. Also, when i visited the campus this past summer, I loved the atmosphere. The city of Providence itself is beautiful and has a lot to offer.

Besides the campus, location, and name, I would really want to go there because of the competition and learning experience. It may be a challenge, but I think I would be up for it. Brown is a very unique university that has a lot to offer. Sure it may be an Ivy-leauge just like the others...but it has aspects that not any other ivy has.

Brown my first choice by far. If I was offered a full ride to every other school on the planet, I would choose Brown hands down. I just have that feeling, I dunno, like it is THE place for me.

Every other Ivy school has a manditory core curriculum that every student must complete in order to graduate. Brown doesn't. That is a major reason why I want to go to Brown. I despise history courses; I was the person who wanted to shoot myself every single day last year in APUSH. I couldn't stand it. Sooo boring. I associate core graduation requirements with high school, and I never ever want to take another class that I'm not interested in.

Most people don't consider Brown to be better than HYP, but I certainly do. They're great with their core classes and structure, but I like to learn in a different way. It's all about fit. One of my best friends goes to Princeton, and he HATES it. We're exactly the same: laid back, chill, curious people, but the people he met there are generally uptight and only care about networking. I could never go to a place like that.

And face it, it's the only school that has SexPowerGod. Way cooler than the rest of the Ivies.

Just wondering, why did you apply to Brown, ghostfacekiller?

i like a school that gives its students the privilege to construct their own classes. it shows me that Brown is trustworty, and feels its students are mature enuf to make thier own chocies, which is impressive; yeah its laidbakc/ no core curriculum. also, if ur interested in being a doc, 90% of those who apply to med school get in....so thats why i wanna go there, hopefully those reasons get me in

They also have an Egyptology major, which no other school offers, if your into that...

I visited Harvard. Cancelled the app after I got home. It was nothing like Brown. Cancelled the Princeton app, the UPenn app, the WashU app... hehe.

I didn't even care that Brown was/wasn't a member of the Ivy League. I met a girl who wouldn't stop gushing about it a couple years back... and when time came to look into colleges, I just remembered her and the fact that it has a neuroscience department. That plus the fact that it had PLME was enough academically for me to apply.

But Brown is so much more.

Brown just feels like a school where they really give their students responsibility and control. The students can actually propose ideas, and they are accepted and the changes made become a part of school culture. It's a very different environment. Certainly there's maturity and focus, but there's so much more of a friendly atmosphere there. It just felt so fun and happy and smelled absolutely perfect.

Brown has great greens. That's a must. If I can't play Frisbee, I ain't going there. No core is awesome. I'm going to be able to take courses in my many intellectual fetishes without having to fret over fulfilling a core. And if I want, I can also focus more on something - but that's lame :]

It's a great school to explore yourself intellectually and socially, and I just love the feel of it. It's artsy and liberal and way fun. Someplace I could totally see myself being involved and doing everything I want. Exhausting myself and making AMAZING friends.

Haha I'll stop now. I hope I get accepted... MARCH 29th CANT COME SOON ENOUGH!

yup, the Egyptology program did it for me.

plus the open curriculum, chill but still east-coast location, and strong academic reputation.

can't really agree more with cowtipper. on the same boat.

Yay! Other people who appreciate how amazing Brown is! I'm a junior and I just can't wait to apply there next fall! The core curriculum is amazing - it lets students learn what they're passionate about instead of boring things they won't pursue. I'm visiting this summer but I've spent ages on the website, watched videos on it, talked to people etc, and i just get this feeling that it's so relaxed, intelligent, and liberal [i dont only mean politically]. I agree with what someone said before - if they offered me a full ride to Harvard I would still pick Brown.
