No, this isn’t information to their questions. (My S already wrote his.) But why are you CCers so psyched about Brown? Tetris? Flower? etc… You can write crazy reasons here, not stuff you think you should write in the application. Why would you recreate their crest everywhere? I’m not saying it’s wrong, but I want to feel the love!

So, here goes…I know that post up there ^^^ sounds totally weird (even to me and I wrote it!). But I was writing in response to some pretty desperate-sounding posts…(“Brown is my dream school”…“I’m so desperate to get into Brown that…” and “give me a chance, give me a chance…”.etc.) So here it is: my son is totally excited about Brown and I wanted to learn more. But since he’s so tired of all this college pressure to tell me much, I figured you readers could write a few things. So far, 69 readers and no commenters!

Here’s some answers I came up with: wonderful LAC-atmosphere in an Ivy. Open curriculum: it’s like everyone can graduate with an interdisciplinary concentration. Terrific research possibilities. hummm any others?

Well, not totally so. I am sure students can do this, but the requirements for concentrations can be daunting, and full of requirements. Each department has its own parameters, prerequisites, etc. The Open Curriculum is about everything else that surrounds the concentrations. That is, there are no core requirements, and if students want to only take courses in their particular concentrations, they can. Mind you, most students don’t only take courses in one department because most of them are very well-rounded, but don’t think it is all loosy-goosy, because that is not entirely the case. Which is probably a good thing! (I’m a mom of a third year student)

Educationally, they’re strong in every department and I love the open curriculum, but you can get a good education at many schools. The reason I really love Brown is for the student body. I’ve gotten the impression that the “average” Brown student is serious about his/her education, unique, and open minded. I live in a pretty homogeneous environment right now, and I’m tired of feeling like an outcast because I don’t conform to certain beliefs. Brown has the free-spirited and diverse element going for it, which makes it sound like a utopia.

Also, I talked to Kevin Roose, the Brown student/author of The Unlikely Disciple on facebook, and he said that if I get into Brown we can hang out and listen to Michael Buble, haha. :D

I want to go to Brown because I like befriending other artistic happy people.
