Why Business/Economics?

So for those of you who are currently in business/economics right now or are planning on going into either one of those fields, what made you choose them?

anyone care to comment?

My son's reasoning was as follows. He didn't consider himself the math/science type; those subjects didn't come particularly easily to him. Nor was he the creative, artistic or literary type. His favorite subjects were history and government, and he reads lots of newspapers and on-line periodicals and commentaries. He always loved games (especially chess) and sports and was successful in competition. He also is very even-tempered, a good manager, and well-liked. So it seemed that a business career of some type would fit his personality and abilities.

This may seem like an obvious comment, but students who are seeking a career in business (without a particular industry in mind) often choose a business or econ major. Some business may prefer more specific undergrad majors (engineering, accounting, etc.), but a business degree is a good, general purpose major for starting a business career.

If you have your eye on a particular industry or career, though, it's important to research what undergrad degrees are most desirable (or if an advanced degree is needed).
