Sun God Festival? I WANT TO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Ahhhhhhhhhhh

UCLA has their beginning of the year concert. What the **** does Berkeley have? Some lame welcome week and Caltopia where we get free pens and random **** in which we have to give our fake e-mails to receive.

lol sd sux they arnt fun at all
+1 for big game, but not just the game the whole week
berkeley’s alot more diverse, so different people go do diff stuff. if you wanna chachella go find the hippies in the coops. if you want to ski go find the bros in the frats. if you want to study go find the asians in the libraries (generalizing, of course)

I’m pretty sure I’d take Wiz and Jimmy Eat World over watching us get creamed by Andrew Luck. Sure I appreciate the fact that we get a football team and SD doesn’t, but I think I’d rather take a yearly concert than a football team. Team’s been pretty lulzworthy the past few years (yadda yadda yeah Tedford’s brought us to post-games…too bad those games are pretty worthless)
And I don’t care about diversity of people. It’s the things I am able to do around the city that matters. Berkeley is a crap college town with too many hobos/hippies and a bunch of restaurants that people get too excited about. Like Cheeseboard. I still don’t understand the appeal of it.

I visited berkeley and I’m happy that I will be attending Cal in the fall. If you like ucsd so much why don’t u try transfering or applying there for grad school?

I’ve heard people say that UCSD’s campus is ugly even though it’s so close to the beach. I guess the campus not as modern as UCLA’s or classic as Berkeley’s.

This is so funny. It just goes to show to each his own. My son hated UCSD. He was a Regents Scholar there, a recruited athlete and he only had to pay $900 a year and he still walked away. He couldn’t stand it. It’s just amazing to me how different everyone’s perception is of all the UC campuses.

I never said I liked UCSD, so I don’t know what some of yall are reading. What I did ask is why can’t we throw something like a concert here. I guess I got derailed talking about the lack of stuff to do in Berkeley, but I never said that there’s a ton of things to do in SD.

And, what is an ugly campus? Maybe I just don’t appreciate architecture enough, but unless the buildings are barf-colored green or dirt brown, I can’t picture an ugly campus. Plain, sure, but ugly’s a strong descriptive word.

I’m curious though why your son hated SD. Although SD probably wouldn’t be topping any of my lists if I could choose a school for athletics (personally, only got to play around with some CSUs =). But SD’s got some good programs connecting its UG to G.

Yes, he chose Berkeley. It was his first choice school and there was no way he could walk away from Cal Engineering.

He didn’t like the campus. He thought it was too spread out and beige. He doesn’t like San Diego (hard to believe but true). He didn’t like the vibe of the school and felt there wasn’t anything to do there. It just wasn’t for him. I think part of it may be that he has been to the San Diego area so many times for his athletic events. He just wanted something new.

As for the education, it’s a great university but it’s not as good as Berkeley for Engineering.

We have Cal Day…we always have a well-known band perform on Cal Day. This year we had the Dodos, who are great. We had Cold War Kids in the past, if I’m remembering correctly (who are ‘meh,’ but whatever).

Sun God has Crystal Castles and Best Coast. Woop-dee-doo. Crystal Castles is so annoying live and Best Coast is very boring live.

Seriously, the Dodos > the entirety of the Sun God fest.

And anyways, why should we throw our own “festival” when we have the Greek Theatre and Oakland and San Francisco right here. There are literally concerts EVERY DAY you could go to, and we have big music festivals every year (Treasure Island, Outside Lands, and Noise Pop). San Diego doesn’t have nearly as big a music scene, and they don’t have any festivals anymore (Street Scene was canceled).

We haven’t always had a band perform on CD have we? CWK was last year and the Dodos this year. Heard of CWK, never even heard of the Dodos. It’s like you conveniently forget Mike Posner, Big Sean, Wiz, and JEW at Sun God.

And sure there’s concerts everywhere in the world you can say. But you can get in to this one for freeeeeee as long as you’re a student.
Lol at Reynolds. That was way less exciting than I thought it would be and the movie got kinda boring …

It’s not that I conveniently forgot them - it’s that I’ve never heard of them. And you say you’ve never heard of the Dodos, so I guess we’re even. :P

The Dodos are about as big as Cold War Kids…maybe a bit bigger…definitely more critically acclaimed than Cold War Kids…The Dodos are a pretty big deal.

And no, there aren’t concerts everywhere in the world! San Diego doesn’t have a big concert scene.

That being said, I’m all for putting on a bigger festival…so I’m not really sure why I’m defending Cal hahaha. and yes, Caltopia and Calapalooza and Welcome Week are all so stupid.

But again, we live in one of the music capitals of the world…concerts aren’t always that expensive…and we have the Greek Theatre right on campus…last season we had Arcade Fire, Beach House, Vampire Weekend, Maroon 5, and more…and I’d much rather spend some money to go to a full-fledged “real” festival like Treasure Island or Outside Lands…just sayin’!

@kev best coast and crystal castles are both prime, take it back
But anyhow at cal u could catch concerts a lot cuz it’s in SF, no need for it to be a school event

Crystal Castles and Best Coast are great - I just don’t like either of them live. I’ve seen Crystal Castles twice and thought they were pretty unlistenable…Best Coast is all right live…a bit boring…at least when I saw them.
