Why did I waste $50 applying to UCR?

it's a safety school and everyone gets in.
why did I waste my money?

haha !

I’m wondering the same. Basically I applied to all the UCs except SF because I have anxiety issues and was afraid the decent schools wouldn’t take me, lol.

I would never donate 50 bucks to a UC that I knew I wasn’t going to attend. Rule of thumb, have one backup, one target, and two reaches.

I also applied to a bunch of CSU’s because this was my first experience dealing with college admissions and I didn’t want to close any doors. That’s why i’m in a speech class right now, lol.

@lintij That’s pretty good advice. I initially submitted an application to cal poly but I changed my mind and ended up not paying the application fee. Would have been 50 bucks wasted.

same here. I had everything set and submitted for USC and on the day of the deadline I realized I NEVER wanted to live in LA. That even if I was admitted I’d rather go to anywhere else. I withdrew it that same day. Funny thing is, that’s the way I feel about UCLA. I applied back in Nov thinking I’d totally love to go there, only to later realize I would never accept it unless they were the ONLY school to take me. It still shocks people when I tell them UCLA is my safety’s safety…hehe…

The budget issues made the admissions unpredictable. It was probably a good idea to apply to UCR

Awww, Riverside needs love too!

lol i applied last year and it was the first admission package i received and i over reacted when i saw it.

i was like “OMMMMGGGG i got into UC…r…but still its a UC!!!”

and then a couple months later i got UCLAs admission package and i was like

“damn why couldn’t UCLA pop my admission package cherry!”

Actually, from UC Riverside comes many of UCLA’s medical residents. So don’t sell it short. Also a number of UCR’s undergrads continue on to post grad at Stanford, Harvard, etc.

I didn’t bother wasting money on UCSB, UCR, any CSU…I just couldn’t afford applying to every college, nor did I need a million backups. That’s the problem, they tell you to have all these backups, but in reality you just need one backup. I would argue that one should apply to more reach schools than backups or targets.

Well UCR is the next UC after Berk and irvine that has a business school

I will admit UCR wins hardcore when it comes to advertising themselves. Unlike the other UCs, their website is beautiful and well polished and the things they mail you are at least moderately impressive. UCR really gets a high-5 from me in that regard.

@Hadrian

Are you applying to med schools? Why would you even think about applying to UCSF?

You people are cheap bastards going $65 is too much to waste.

no but you get into UCR or UCM even if you don’t apply there. The need to apply there is pointless as you get in automatically.

I didn’t get into UCR or UCM automatically. I admit UC Merced is a last freakin resort but UC Riverside looks better than any CSU other than Cal Poly.

I believe that if you’re rejected from all the other UCs you apply to, you’ll get into UCR and UCM even fi you didn’t apply there so long as you’re UC eligible.

Yeah I’ve heard that. Pretty mature of someone to just assume they will be offered a spot at UCR or UCM. $65 for a relatively secure state of mind isn’t much in my opinion. Cover your ass, apply to your matches, and do a little reaching. That’s what applying to schools is all about!
