<p>Chickens don't have the greatest capacity for conscious thought. So either he was just wandering stupidly or he was fleeing for his life. I vote the latter, or else he would have been squashed by an oncoming vehicle.</p>

<p>Well if you really want to know, I have chickens and never, in the 8 or so years that I have had them, have any of them crossed the road.</p>

<p>my grandma has about 20 chickens in her house. they don't cross the road because the road is too far from the house (grandma's house is in an estate). but they do always cross the river, and almost always there'll be two or three who will fall into the river.</p>

<p>The chicken's crossing the road is a very complex incident full of all types and variations of theories, so I decided to sit down with and psychoanalyze said chicken. After much clucking and talking, I have come to the conclusion that there are several reasons Chicken decided to cross said road. Firstly, the previous night, the chicken had accidentally tripped on a rock and fallen into mud, requiring it to shower thoroughly before bedtime. As a result, the chicken went to bed far later than normal, and this as a result caused it to awaken 1.2 hours past schedule. As Chicken was going to eat breakfast...</p>
