Why did UCONN do this?

After waiting 8 wks for an EA decision, I finally got accepted. What I'm confused about is I put nursing as my one and only major and they accepted me into ACES Exploratory. Why? I heard it's very hard to get into the nursing program if you are not initially accepted into it.Anyone have any ideas on this?

It may be because you did not have the necessary prerequisite course work, or because of grades, or because of your Math SAT score, or any number of reasons. If you have questions about internal transfers, I would suggest contacting the Nursing school with questions.

Freshman can’t get into the nursing program; I believe you get it in either your sophmore or junior year.
ACES is known for helping people pick a major relating to what they want to do, and helping them get into the college they want to go to.

Did you go on a university tour? They explained all of this.

I know nursing at Uconn for some reason requires some form of Physics, thats why my friend did get accepted into Uconn.

My son went to uconn as a transfer student and they messed up on his major, didn’t explain things clearly, gave him the wrong advisor… I think this happens when you are at a big school. Just contact admissions (or your advisor) and discuss with them. They will give you the answers. Just keep asking the questions until you are comfortable with the answers you are getting.

Freshmen CAN get into nursing program.

Admission Requirements. See Admission to the University. Student applications for admission to the School of Nursing are accepted only for the Fall semester. Qualified students are admitted directly to the School of Nursing as freshmen. See Freshmen Admission. Admission is competitive and applicants should have credentials placing them in the upper range of their high school graduation class. Freshman, transfer, and petition students must have completed a high school (or college) course in chemistry, physics, and algebra for admission consideration.

Students not admitted into the School of Nursing at the time of entry to the University may apply for admission through the School of Nursing School Change procedures. Such students should submit a completed School Change Petition form as well as a statement as to why they desire the School change to the School of Nursing, Admission and Enrollment Services Office, Storrs Hall, Room 102. Change of School petitions are due by February 1st for fall acceptance consideration. Decisions will be based on several criteria including the applicant’s academic record, courses taken and space availability. School Change applicants are expected to have a minimum cumulative total GPA of 3.0 as well as a math/science GPA that is equal or higher to be competitive.

Hmm, I guess I heard wrong.
I think it might of been you get accepted to it, but you don’t start in the school right away.

Yeah I think everyone initially gets accepted just to ACES, then gets accepted to their school later on.
