transferring to nursing

Hi, I'm a freshman currently studying at Rutgers University and I want to transfer to the nursing program in northeastern
I'm currently taking 14 credits this semester.
When do apply if I want to get in for the fall 2013 semester? would it be too behind if I applied after my sophomore year?
and how selective is the nursing program?
I'm just generally clueless and any information on the transferring process would be helpful :(

Nursing is pretty competitive. Also, I don’t know how or when to apply - try a Google search perhaps, or maybe someone else will be able to help you with that.

Might I ask, why are you transferring, and why nursing?

I came to Rutgers undeclared and decided on majoring in nursing recently. the problem is i’m in School of Arts of Sciences and the nursing school here is tiny and there aren’t many spots available so there is a high chance that I wouldn’t be to get in.

1- Nursing is very competitive here, as said above. It is competitive at most schools that offer programs.

2- Many schools won’t accept you into a competitive, structured program if you apply to enter after your second year. You are always more attractive earlier on, so your chances would be much better after only one year.

3- Transferring into nursing is very difficult, to the point of being near impossible. Think of it this way- if you aren’t nursing now (at this school or at another school), then you obviously didn’t always want to be a nurse. So you need to convince a panel full of nurses that, despite this, you desperately want to be a nurse now and can’t imagine your life any other way and will commit yourself to pursuing nursing without any hesitation… Not an easy task. Add to that very strict academic requirements, and it’s very tough.

4- Fall 2013 would be applying right now, up until the deadline in the spring. I believe transfers are let in rolling, so it’s obviously best to apply at the very earliest you can.

thank you so much for clearing up the time frame for applying. Nursing is definitely something I’m going to pursue no matter what (even if it means getting a second bachelors and doing an accelerated program).
What I’m really worried about now is the prerequisite courses. There are courses here (Anatomy&Physiology) that I am not allowed to take because they are not available to non-nursing students. Are the prerequisite courses required? or are they just recommended courses that students should take to not be behind when starting at NEU.
sorry I have so many questions. this whole process is so complicated and getting into nursing is school is super important to me :(

Here is a sample nursing curriculum fron the NU website:

Idont think they would look down on it, because you didnt choose it rigt away, shows you have given it some thought.

Actually, the above is wrong. I’ve spoken directly with the admissions advisors for transfer nursing students. I got asked it a lot when I worked in admissions.
