Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
A Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is for undergraduates with exceptional financial need; that is, students with the lowest expected family contribution (EFC). Priority is given to students who receive Federal Pell Grants. An FSEOG does not have to be paid back.

here is part of my story, my dad owns a small store, and runs a small business out of it. now any one thats paid attention n a history class know that when you business goes bankrupt you loose you other assets (meaning, car,home..) so my dad made his business into a S corporation, that is the smallest type of corporation, so know if anything happens to his business his personal life will stay safe.

when i was applying to Rutgers, i applied as an eof student, they denied me b/c my dad had a corporation under his name . i appealed it, i said that nonsense he still makes less than $XX,000. (XX=blow 30). they still said no to me, after a month of arguing with them i said ok w/e.

so why hell i am not getting this grant ? when i should be, when my efc is 0

yes 0. To my knowledge that is the lowest it can go, unless thy have changed the system, though i very highly doubt that, i EFC does stand for expected family contribution, so if its blow 0...... i am being sarcastic b/c i am mad

no i’ve been through his tax returns my self, and even their he doesnt get to much back. i had to send rutgers a copy of everythingile i was wasting time making copies i read through everything and went online and looked up anything that didnt make sense.

maybe ur parents income is too high? even though you have an EFC of 0 doesn’t mean you get EXTRA grants. I also have an EFC of 0 and didnt recieve any grant such as that and neither did my friends who also have an EFC of 0. I would think you would need an extremely low income for you to recieve this grant. possibly lower than 20,000 a year? aka if you’re in the EOF program.

and it’s not you SHOULD be getting this grant either. so chill and be happy with your 20k+ in financial aid. ( TAG, PELL, the TWO loans)

It’s likely that other students had greater demonstrated financial need, and that these grant funds were depleted before students with your level of need could be awarded the grant.

wabbitro, i highly doubt that i didnt demonstrate financial need, i was able to be in and qualify for EOF, before they they disqualified me. So that means i should get this grant and my both parents income combined hit just about about the 27K mark so i am sure i am close.

i dont have 20+ K

i declined the loans and used pell and TAG to pay tuition. I am trying to avoid going in debt till i go to med school.

and tomm i am going to call and ask why i didnt get it, and i am going to tell them they should award me that grant

OMG, both my parents income combined equals less than 27k and I did not received the FSEOG grant. I was accepted to EOF but I declined the invitation for now…I think there are kids out there who actually need it more than me and I don’t want to take up space. I really don’t need the money because of my scholarships, but I know for certain that the FSEOG grant is very very puny. For some reason, my younger brother received it going to county, and the fseog grant may only cover one of his text books.

the reason i brought this up was b/c you see a friend of mine got into EOF and he has that grant and its about 2k, so i am pretty sure that its not puny

why would you decline eof you could get more grants that would be useful ?
