Seriously - why do people keep coming up w/ ■■■■■■■■ posts like this?

Uhh, no - if anything, that “honor” would go to the Jews, but pretty much all immigrant groups have a tradition of working hard at school (since their parents sacrificed a lot to start from scratch in a new country) - immigrants from Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, etc.

Plus - it is a total fallacy that all Asians do well in school (much less enjoy it). There are many Asian ethnicities which have high HS drop-out rates (Hmong, Laotian, etc.)

In addition to immigrants status, there is also variance due to socio-economic status.

All first generation Americans are driven much harder then others because of…

familial pressure: our parents mostly came from third world/war torn countries. They know ****, and they don’t want us to end up going through that.

honor: I’m Filipino, and intelligence and physical fitness gets you places in a country that gave birth to the Filipino Martial Arts and Escrima.

(in explaining why Asians are good at math): you don’t need to understand English, so our parents can teach us math better than any other subject.

high academic expectations: most schools in Asia teach math and science at higher levels during younger ages.

Many of the Asian families in America may be wealthy but that doesn’t mean they didn’t go through ****. Some of them had to work in the field for years during the Cultural Revolution in China, potentially sacrificing much of their education and future. Some people were robbed and beaten by the government. Some people’s family members were killed by the government. Of course, that doesn’t compare to the situation in Africa right now, but some of the stuff that has happened in Asia to the generations you are thinking of exhibits corruption quite a step below what occurred in America during the same time periods.

Anyway, I want to make this point: it may be true that a vast majority of Asians IN AMERICA fit the description of being more academically motivated than average, but go to Asia and you will find that the distribution there in terms of academic talents is probably more normally distributed than it is here with regards to Asians – possibly similar to the Caucasian spectrum.

it’s a culture thing, too (along with other things people said earlier)

In many asian cultures, if you’re an average person (not talented / gifted) the only way to become successful in life is going to college (as most parents think). Therefore parents pushing kids to go to college. Plus, some asian parents cares about degrees more than anything else and they look at that as a factor of success in life, and it represent family value. For example, they can look at a kid with a bachelor degree and respect it more than a high school drop out (even tho the high school drop out might start a small company / store and make more money than the college grad). Therefore, you see lots of asian kids going to college. Some of them like it, some of them don’t, but they know that if you get a degree, in general you’re better off than someone who doesn’t.

are there more ugly, stupid, poor, and uninteresting asians than whites blacks hispanics etc.?

not all asians are from china or north korea

can someone close this thread? all that anyone’s doing here is being racist. what if i made a thread called “why do blacks like to shoot/rape people so much?” it wouldn’t be any less racist, and untrue.

it’s more complex than a few simple answers, but the most generally accepted idea is that asian cultures (among others) are collectivist, and thus stress societal duties more than individual freedoms. an asian person is more likely to judge their own value by how much they contribute to their family and community, which in today’s world means getting a good job, which means working diligently at school (just like 150 years ago it meant coming to America to build railroads for terrible pay, or 75 years ago it meant working at a laundromat or restaurant if that was the only job you could get).

obviously this is not a generalization about all asians, or even necessarily true, but it’s a well-established theory in cultural psychology.

“I mean just getting by. If you’re an underachiever/poor, you need to impress the ladies with your sexiness or your cool personality. Otherwise it’s basically a fluke if you can get a girlfriend.”

Well you can say that for any race. NT but your an epic fail

agree with Fides et Ratio…lmao
but asians arent the only ones that are overrepresented…jewish people are overrepresented in all aspects of America life from businessman to college students

I remember this Asian kid from tenth grade crying in the hallway one afternoon, sobbing about how his life was over. He was actually dry-heaving and shaking, he was so upset. I stopped to ask him what was the matter, and all he could say was, “I bring dishoner to my family.” Over and over again, whispering, with a look of abject horror in his eyes, “I bring dishoner… I bring dishoner….” You would think he had just been caught at a day-care with his pants down.

Turns out he just got an A- on some physics quiz.
